Is Winamp3 still installed? (Studio.exe was the Winamp3 executable, although this changed to winamp3.exe in the later builds... but hey, all of that was more than 2 years ago)

You should've clicked the 'None' button in Winamp3 > Prefs > Media
to unassociate all filetypes from Winamp3
(before uninstalling Winamp3 and/or installing Winamp 5.x)

Make sure both MP3 and MPGA are selected in:
Winamp 5.04 > Prefs > File Types

Also make sure mpga is included in the extension list in:
Prefs > Plugins > Input > MPEG Audio Decoder > config
eg. MP3;MP2;MP1;AAC;APL;MPGA

If the problem persists, you can fix it via:
Windows Folder Options -> File Types tab
but if you want exact instructions then you'll need to tell us what your Windows OS is first...

Ah ha.... fixed it with the "Windows Folder Options -> File Types tab" thingy.
