An idea for computer support?
Just thinking on this ..as quite a few folk still come on looking for help and as Atmo offered why not just stickie a 'redirect' option?
As you can't (as will[?] explained) offer a comp support maybe that would be an option? Atmo could then look after it at his place? dunno was just an idea that could help a few folk out... wha u guy's think? and would that be a possibility? Atmo could then, (if he's still up for it) set up a special thread, with guest posting for this. Would have to carry a disclaimer etc clearly stating that winamp is not responcible for any blah blah blah ...(legal jargon stuff) but i reckon thats an idea on a way to help a few folk out? ~ :) |
I couldn't put up with another freakin' sticky

It's not a bad idea, but i dont think it would work. Too many variables, and too many ways it could go sour.

i like the idea of a tech support forum. but that's pretty much what GD is some of the time.

on my friends forum he has a section for computer tech support or general computer talk. i've posted a few of the problems i've had and it's helped me out a lot. but i still like the idea of a tech support section though. or maybe a general computer section.

yeah, a computer forum would be awesome, yet another forum for me to stalk :D

with a computer section we can talk about computers all the time. everybody knows that winamp.com forums aren't responsible for any damage to your own system.

what i was thinking was an addition to the rules and the topic description..I would say the stickies that are there will be dropped at some time anyway, they generally change from what I've seen.
Then the redirect could go to a simple html index page with a disclaimer, that allthough you came from here, winamp has no responcibility etc etc (or the person accepting the refer ;) ) that would then cover any legalities..a simple accept and reject button set. the reject brings you back here, the accept you continue at your own risk. I'm kinda careful in what support I will give and if I suspect it's someone who doesn't have a clue, apart from how to switch it on and make a mess, I ALLWAYS!! say 'Take it to Your Dealer'. Some here will have seen me recommend that) Thats the way I would see it working and I'd be up for making the html page etc if it was accepted. I'd recommend it for General Support only. Any thing of say, Atmo's leauge anyway, you should be in a specialist forum like his, which is why I go to xptweaks.org[?](while since I had to go there). I also float down Atmo's sometimes..interesting reading some of that stuff and his comp mods are wicked nice :D Anyway, that was my idea on it...dunno if it would work though as Atmo says a lot of variables involved..mainly legal probably... ~ :) |
i think it would work as long as the legal things are cleared up. but it's usually the person receiving the advice that is doing things at there own risk anyways.
