winamp crashing sound + windows sond but NOT media player
 

hello i'm new to this forum and my topic may be misplaced

BUT i still hope i can get some light on my problem

recently my winamp just hang's i have reda alittle about the turning on stuff in the direct sound output and that work's for a while and to get winamp even started i have to start it an kill the process and start it again ( or rebbot my computer) but since it is my fileslave i don't feel like it ... i recently switched to optical sound cable instead of regualr mini-phonojack -> stereo (red & white)...

i have a clean install even installed i a few times so everything is fresh and up to date ..

i have a

ABIT NF7-S 2.0
Win XP (with updates)
norton 2004 (even tried without norton)
no firewall

i LOVE winamp and can't think of anything else to use .. itunse suck BADASS aswell as y-amp,sonique realplayer
