Memory-modules of different speed

Is it OK to use memory-modules with different clock-frequencies on the same motherboard? Most of my friendss say so, and I wouldn´t like to miss the chance I have now to buy 256 MB:s of RAM from a friend for €30.

But still I don´t waant trouble. So, someone, does it work?

You will be restricted to the speed of the slowest module.

Yes, of cource, but that´s not the point. The point´s that Photoshop and any games never than HalfLife are a pain in the ass with just 256 MB and that the same apps seem just soooo much faster with 512 :).

Thank you.

You also have to make sure that your pc can hold more than 256. My old pc could only hold 384mb of ram, after that it didn't boot up so I had to return the extra ram.

If its coming from a friend, ask them to let you try it.

My computer is an athlon XP-powered thing so i doubt i will have any trouble with more than 256 MB. And yes, I will try it, but I think I will sell it further with a higher frice than €30 if it doesn't work in my machine but well with others.

most athlon mobos have simms, so you need to make you've only got 3 sticks total.

I strongly recommend you don't mix speeds though - I had both a DDR266 and a DDR400 stick in my (athlon64) DDR400 system. They both ran at DDR266, but Windows bluescreened occasionally. Removing the DDR266 stick fixed it.

[edit]Nobody's sold an Athlon motherboard which takes SIMMs for ages...[/edit]

SIMMs require that you use two equally sized sticks together and were arounf in the early P1 days. All memory these days is synchronous DIMMS.
