SP2 killed winamp

I installed SP2 and now everytime I open a file winamp opens, then closes before the song starts.

anyone else having this problem?

DJ Egg 28th August 2004 03:39

No, Winamp 5.05 works fine on xp sp2 here.
You'll need to provide much more info than that if you want us to help you.

Maybe try a clean install?

I think I remember someone fixing a SP2 issue by running winamp in windows95/98 compatibility mode. Not that its the greatest idea for a long term solution though.

DJ Egg 28th August 2004 03:55

Urghh... Win9x compatibility mode

hehe

The only issue I've heard of is you can't play/enqueue files from Explorer if you disable the DCOM Server Process Launcher service. Then again, this probably affects most if not all programs.

Apart from that, it's all guesswork without any proper detailed info...

SP2 killed WinAmp for me too... Starts up, loads the main player window and then I get the generic Windows crash window.

davros42 28th August 2004 03:59

Running it in Win98/ME compatability mode DOES fix the issue though, whatever it is.

Note that, Windows 2000 Compatability Mode does NOT fix the problem.

I'm getting the same problem, began happening instantly after I installed sp2.. and i'm no winamp noob!
It doesn't happen ALL the time, just often. especially when i'm in the middle of a sweet jam, and i've got my air guitar out and everything

DJ Egg, it seems as if Winamp has a problem with SP2 after all...
Not sure why for certain people it's working fine, and for other people it's causing problems though.

davros42 28th August 2004 16:02

Audioscrobbler seems to be the link between all of us having issues. If you remove Audioscrobbler, Winamp will start fine... If not, you need to be in compatability mode.

DJ Egg 28th August 2004 16:38

Yup, audioscrobbler plugin is the cause of the problem.
Nothing we can do about it here...
Hopefully the audioscrobbler guys will come up with a fixed version soon :/

so there are a bunch of threads like this in the winamp section of the scrobbler site.

they've posted a test version of the 1.1.8 version of the plugin, which I haven't tried but apparently it fixes things.
