Quote:

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN
By Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
----------------------------------

And with that, I'm off.

deeder7001 4th September 2004 04:24

WTF? dragonson's gone too? WTF is going on around here? all the cool people are leaving.

ShyShy 4th September 2004 04:55

D.S. just feels as if the time to move on has come upon him. He's left a couple times before, but, felt that having his account left open was a temptation to come back. Therefore, account closed, no temptation.

deeder7001 4th September 2004 05:05

why is a lot of the cool people leaving?

Huh. I don't get it. I mean, if you want to move on, move on. Are the Winamp forums like crack cocaine or something?

What's wrong with that, though? Do you actually check the forums enough that the rest of your life is affected negatively by it?

deeder7001 4th September 2004 06:13

it's kind of a routine for me to check in on the forums. just to see what's going on and stuff like that.

squakMix 4th September 2004 06:21

AGH. I spend Way too much time here.

ShyShy 4th September 2004 06:28

Bah... I got you all beat... I "met" my future husband here :D

...Or just for some innocent-but-fun flirting (which is the story behind my CT). ;)

The vast majority of new friends I've made online (20 or so) in the past couple of years I met in this forum. That's why I keep coming around.

I chat with DS almost every day, as he's a friend and also because I help manage his forums, so I understand the reasons he decided to resign his account. Out of respect for him I won't share any specifics here. I'll just say that his life's direction just isn't in synch with some of the places he used to spend time online. He also wants more time to participate in Real Lifeā„¢, as well. He's had many friends here, and still does. I'm sure he lurks more than occasionally as a result of that.

He was a frequent regular, a good person and a good friend. Let's all remember him well.

(And if anyone wants to keep in touch with him on a regular basis, his forum is a good way to do it. Find the link in my sig and that of several other members here.)

CraigF 4th September 2004 10:37

seriously, every time people ask for their account to be closed, i lose a little more respect for these forums.

closed? HAH.

Just don't fucking come back.

Germ 4th September 2004 13:06

Yeah it's just people wanting to be drama queens mostly. What "cool" people have left?

will 4th September 2004 13:54

How fucking hard is it to just stop typing "forums.winamp.com" into your web browser?

Seriously people, how hard?

I'm still here. But I'm not cool... :(

sgtfuzzbubble011 4th September 2004 14:07

He asked me to close his account, so I did so quietly. I guess I should have just not added the title... if I would have known it'd be a fuss, I wouldn't have.

Yeah why do the attention seekers do it.

I also blame the mods for clsoing them.......walk away attention seekers just walk away.

Exactly.

So, who's seeking more attention here...the person who asked to have their account closed, or the people fussing and aching about it?

It should be remembered that DS did not announce his leaving anywhere in General Discussions. He posted a poem in the "Arts and Poetry" section, with at best an obscure message, then asked Sarge privately to close his account. No announcement, no muss, no fuss. (Until this thread, which he neither started nor posted in.)

And of all people to moan, it shouldn't be moderators. In any forum I moderate, if something needs to change, it changes. Period. No whining. No moaning. If accounts shouldn't be closed, then kindly tell anyone asking to have that done that it's not done anymore, and to simply not return if that's their wish. How's that so hard? You're the ones with the power to invoke management standards, not regular members.

Whining about it in a thread referencing a person with a closed account, and especially one that the person didn't even start or participate in before hand, is a bit silly...wouldn't it seem?

Germ 4th September 2004 20:30

Fuss? Talking about something is "fussing"?
Everyone has the right to voice their opinion and that includes the moderators. Yippie for you for being so kind and understanding but others are a bit more realistic about what we see.

will 4th September 2004 20:37

So, what, all of a sudden I can't speak my mind?

Phyltre 4th September 2004 20:57

You can speak your mind, and others can respond to it negatively, by saying you shouldn't stress over things.

All of a sudden, you feel marginalized by other people speaking their mind. If you really don't want feedback, I'd guess the best policy is silence, right?

Germ 4th September 2004 21:08

Uh what? I'm sorry I can't figure out what you're attempting to say.

ScorLibran 5th September 2004 08:47

People speaking their mind is the point of an open forum, but that's a diversion of topic.

If you notice more carefully, I pointed out that several people in this thread have accused a member of seeking attention by sending a private message to have his account closed, and never making an announcement in the general discussion forum about it.

So he was seeking attention from......the one moderator he PMed? Sarge is a cool guy and all, but I don't think DS was seeking any extraneous attention from him. ;)

(Then again, I didn't see the PM...so maybe there was some evil, embedded plan that we don't know about.) :blah:

Germ 5th September 2004 13:40

Uhm not really accusing Dragon Sun in paticular, accusing the great hordes of people BEFORE him and those that undoubtebly will come after him.

That image is as repulsive as you, GOC. It's people like you and the many other varieties of idiot that keeps me away from these forums except for the very rare post.

Are you comparing leaving these shitty forums as suicide? If so, that is just ludicrous. Most of the people who leave these forums are much, much, much, much better off. Better to compare it to being reborn.

But I must remember... I'm trying to reason with idiots.

griffinn 6th September 2004 00:29

Do not despair, randman, for I am here (or, despite my being here).

Janus Lunar 6th September 2004 00:33

Randman - I agree with you on that one.

I just love how people can take something so simple and blow it way out of proportion - please, he had his account closed, big deal. For those that are on other forums - such as his own personal one - you'll se him a lot more.

Did that little post make you feel good?
Did your dick get hard?
I found it worth something.
Five minutes and a bucket of patience.
Spouting off words as if you are something or someone is no way to show superiority.
Ask questions.
Communicate.
Understand.

This thread pertains to a PM DragonSon made asking that his account be closed. I really don't see a tie between this thread and the one you linked to above.

No, my post made me feel sad actually. Did asking if my post made my dick get hard make your dick get hard? You blew your "credibility" with that little analogy.

Don't
pretend
to
know
me
unless
you
can

PS. I love ya griff! I like quite a few people here. I even like some of the people who don't like me. Sigh...

My apologies. The thread title references DS, but the topic did seem to drift. I agree with you concerning people who post new threads in GD saying "I'm Leaving" when they really mean "I'm Leaving, Please Come and Beg Me to Stay". It was just odd to see so much fuss in a thread that's about a person who left without doing that.
