Woah

I had cross country practice this morning and we were gong to the course to run a time trial so we got on the bus like we usually do and we ride along and get to the course.

We walk over to a tree and put our bags down. There is a model plane flying overhead. Suddenly, the plane comes dive bombing down and hits two of our best runners. The plane shatters into a million pieces and one person is hit in the head and the other in the arm. We were really lucky that only 2 people got hit because the entire team was in a tight group.

The runner who got hit in the head had a lot of blood, but because of how vascular the head is, it looked a lot worse than it is.

The other one had a huge cut in his arm and after saying nothing for a few seconds fell to the ground in pain.

Our coach called 911 and about 5 cop cars and 2 ambulances came. We were all fairly shocked at this and we ran a quick couple miles and went home.

Luckily, it looks like both of them will be ok but I can't help but thikning that it could have just as easily been me and that if it had hit them in a differnt spot, they could have been seriously hurt.

Uhm didn't find the person operating the model plane?

mikm 11th September 2004 17:16

Holy crap. That's gotta suck. Hope they do OK and can still run.

cyu 11th September 2004 17:19

Ouch. How big was the plane?

k_rock923 11th September 2004 18:29

Well, the one who got hit in the head is okay, we heard from him a while ago. They stitched him up and he can run again in a while. Don't know about the other one yet.

The plane was pretty big. A few feet long i think but I didn't really get a good look at it before it shattered.

Too many ... no time for this ! :p

Oh God. Good to know the ppl are allright ..
So, as asked before, did the person that was controling the plane was found ?!

k_rock923 12th September 2004 04:21

yea, they found him. after he hit the guys, he ran over and asked if everyone was alright. when we said no and we were calling 911 he screamed "oh shit" a few times and started picking up the pieces of his plane. Luckily, the cops got there before he ran off (i think he would have if there were no cops) and they talked to him for quite a bit. Didn't take him in or anything though. We're pretty sure he's losing his license to fly the model planes but I'm not sure farther than that.

Russ 12th September 2004 13:31

Err... I dunno about the US, but you certainly don't need a license to fly model planes in the UK.

(although I hear the CAA have launched an investigation to that B-52 model crash, because it caused so much damage, heh)

cyu 12th September 2004 14:03

License to fly model planes lol. Whats the world coming to?
Do I also need a license for a remote controlled car?
