I looked at that page before posting here. But really, do you think I'm gonna want to know what the manufacturer says about it? They're trying to sell the things. I want to know how these headphones compare to other popular headphones, and whether or not I could get a significantly better pair for under 100 bucks.

That's exactly what Headroom is for. They do sell headphones, amps, cables, etc., but they're not affiliated with any manufacturer, and they provide well-balanced reviews and detailed info on headphones and headphone products in almost any price range. Info on their site is the reason I bought the Grado and Sennheiser headphones that I have so far.

I've got a set of Sony MDR-CD780s, and while they may not be the worlds best, I feel they do a good job, and can be gotten for ~100USD(at least thats what I got them for). the one nice feature about them though is that you can't break them by putting your foot on the cord and standing up, as there is a plug at the headphone end, they will simply unplug. I broke my last 2 sets of headphones doing this.

oh yeah, and of all the headphones I've had(all sub-$100 units), these are by far the most comfertable(sp) I've had.

I do this occasionally with my Senns too. Thank goodness for headphones with a quick-disconnect cable. (Grados don't have this feature, by the way. At least not my SR80 cans...I've been lucky enough not to snatch the innards out of them yet though.)

Say: Do the senns have a rolled up coiled cord (like a corded phone)?

Pros: GREAT bass, wonderfull definition, best sound quality ive ever heard, dont require much power, comfortable for long trips
Cons: dont block out as much noise as my sony ncr11's with sound cancelling

What kinda noob is this lol? The headphones all use the same power as it's the outlet that decides how much power that is uses and not the headphones themselves, and I assume he talk about a portable player and not a stationary audio componet, cause then the power of the headphones on a stationary one is not even detecable on the bill.. lol

squakMix 21st September 2004 03:35

...some headphones require an amp to get good sound quality.

I've never seen any that have that....only the straight 3m cord coming out of the left side. You could get an aftermarket coiled cord for them, though, I'm sure. Just don't believe the hype of the $600 Cardas (or other brand) "high-definition" headphone cables. No one in history has ever ABXed fancy headphone cables from stock ones. Buy them for a particular feature like coiled design, or maybe color...same reason to buy anything other than basic home audio cables.

When referring to "power", he might have been loosely referring to impedance and/or sensitivity. His wording's not accurate, but his point might be. I've done that before myself when speaking "casually" about headphone specs. Saying particular cans need less power would usually mean they have higher sensitivity, or lower impedance, or both.

damn... That's a feature I love on the headphones I am using now. Do you know if the 595s have a detachable cord, or if it's fixed?

ScorLibran 21st September 2004 03:56

Yes...the HD595 has a removeable/replaceable cable, just as most (or all) other Senns.

squakMix 21st September 2004 03:57

Awsome, thanks :)
