Linksys Wireless Radio Support?
I wanted to buy one of these but could not tell if it would support Shoutcast or not. Anyone tried one of these or could you tell by the specs if I could get Shotcast over it?

This Linksys device is also called the Media Link and I found this in the manual...
"What kind of Internet radio stations does the Media LInk support? The Media LInk currently supports only Internet radio stations that broadcast via MP3 streaming. The Media LInk will not play stations that broadcast via Windows Media Audio or Real Audio." So I wonder if ShoutCast would fall into this MP3 Streaming category? |
The linksys stereo WILL support shoutcast audio.

I was looking at these too. Believe it or not Walmart is carrying them.
Our local BestBuy store started displaying them in the main aisle back in August. Nice display setup too, no doubt provided by linksys to promote the units. However, I have yet to see one actually work. The staff at BestBuy seemed totally clueless about how it actually works. Checked at another store. Same display, same non-working unit. Checked back a few weeks later to see if they had figured it out yet, still no-worky. The linksys radio looks interesting except that it's still not completely wireless. Needs a wallwart power supply. For $100 more check out the Philips MC-i250: http://www.streamium.com/products/mc-i250/ Specs claim mp3PRO playback capability. They're not clear on whether it'll decode mp3pro streams. |
