Well, fuck.
My website has been up for almost a year and a half now. At first I had about a good 15-30 people checking out my website (for about 6 months), but with my lack of meaningful/useful content, nobody has any reason to visit it.
I need some Ideas. I was going to start a big project to attract some new people (something called "the city"), maybe advertise it freely a bit, but I just havent gotten around to it/dont have the time right now. The project I'm looking at could take literal months to finish, if I worked on it atleast four hours a day. Eh, I dont know... I still might do it. I just need to sit down and do some thinking first. What kind of stuff would you guys like to see on a website? This is my website right now: triplechin.net (purposely removed the url tags as to prevent being accused of advertising). Notice the shitty messege boards... Maybe it'd be good to start there? |
I would suggest (Because of the name of the URL) that you post pictures of the chins of different ethnic groups around the world...
But then I thought, nah...Not many people would be interested in that; I'd probably be the only one to visit the site if that ever happened... :p I don't have any ideas myself, sorry...I've routinely tried to build websites of my own, but they fail, primarily because the content is so bland that I don't even care to update it myself... |
Take it down.
|
I payed money for the .net domain (not much at all... I think it was like 30 bucks), so if I dont make good use out of it I'll be wasting money.
|
Make it community-oriented. That's the only way things survive, and are still interesting.
|
That's a good idea... I should probably start with a new messege board.
Anyone know of a good, free messege board? |
|
Thanks

Graphic sites are starting to kind of become taboo. It's like they're the norm, so I'd try to stay away from a portfolio type thing. Try posting news articles. That's something that gives you new daily content, and gives people a reason to visit on a daily basis. Try to find a certain type of news that you think would most appeal to the kind of audience you'd most like to attract. This also goes good with a community theme.

That would be cool if I had the time and money to do hardware articles...

$30 for a year of hosting isn't bad. I paid $15 for my domain name, and $15 for a year of service with I think 2 gigs of bandwidth for my old Studio16.net website.
But then I got poor and uncreative and couldn't think of anything to do with that one either, so I just didn't renew. |

Comes to like 23 or some-odd pounds. |
I mean, come on, put it in common terms...
|
so who do you pay to for a domain? and why exactly?
|
It doesnt matter.
Edit: Hmm, Looks like I'm paying less than I thought. Turnes out, it was only 17 bucks for 2 years (name**********), not one :p. |
For a useless site you have no ideas, content, or anything of a vague interest to anyone for.
Why exactly do all you people have sites anyway? |
I made it for fun, and Was going to try to attract an audience.
That's all. Recreation. |

There is one axiom in the process of creating a good site: Content Is King
|
Fill it up with spyware.
