Advanced Ripping Features

I think WA's ripping potential could be expanded in some a unique way.

- Analog mode, which bypasses drivers and rips the tracks using raw input from the CD drive.

- It would mean that creating backups of that wonderful album you bought (which has been unfortunately crippled) would be possible.

There are probably other ways that cripplage could be stopped.

I was thinking it would mean WA has a distinct advantage over most other rippers out there ;)

If by crippled you mean scratched, try EAC. What it does is rereads the scratched parts over and over until it gets a good read. I just used it on a cd with deep gouges and it spit out flawless wav files which i then turned into mp3s.

By crippled I mean copy protection crap.

riiight, i really doubt that's going to ever be done since anything in the Winamp distribution has to be legit and providing support out of the box to rip protected cd's considering what aol do (since they are the overall owners of Winamp) sort of goes against that

Backups?

Ripping so we can burn and play on players that it is borked with?

not even backups. if the cd is copy protected then it's copy protected for a reason.

if the issue is that bad for you then you could always get a 3rd party developer to make a plugin for you to replace the current ripping feature.
