Although, on the other hand, it's uncommon for artists to have their background vocals on tape, so who knows. I feel a little bad for her now that I laughed my ass off.

She said that her band started playing the wrong song, so all she could do was dance.

At first I thought she was dissing SNL, by walking off, but then at the end (after SNL used prerecorded bear-people skits to fill the time gap) she explained.

I think the band was cool to try and save her.

its a shame shes is so much cooler than her sister and now noone will ever respect her again especialy after comedy central and the like tear into her.

It's very strange, I just remembered something that happened before that--

Just as the show was going to commercial before Ashlee performed, (they usually fade in stuff that they're doing to prepare for the next skit or performer) they showed three seconds of someone handing a microphone to Ashlee, and she was smiling with a kind of confused look on her face (not unlike the one she had when the act went wrong.) Guess that turned out more significant than they thought.

Only to be betrayed at the end... "My Band played the wrong song"

I haven't seen the result but I do know that Artist's get stiffed by studio's. Most times when a group is supposedly 'Live' on a show - they are - in the Studio. What you get out of your tv set is generally a 'Dub-Over'.
Most cases you won't notice unless you look closely. If they do get it wrong, as seems to have happened here, then at worst the 'Audio' to the Singer is only slightly out.

The other cause is that the vocal prompt/monitor was made 'Live' by accident and there is no way she could have sang another song with the wrong one wittering in her ears.
Just isn't possible.
And most Artists use Electronic vocal prompts these days, thats why they all wear ear phones. I'd say judging from what I've read and such without having seen it, that by her confusion thats whats happened..

Or it's as Gogitta said another Milli Vanilli and just about every other band you care to mention.

The ear phones are also so the artist can hear themself and/or the band back, and for a click track (more for the drummer). A click track is like a metronome basically so they'll play in time and at the right time.

Maybe it wasn't going to be fully lip synched, the vocals sounded to me like they could have just been backing vocals. She might have been going to sing over the top with those as the backing. But I only watched the short edited video so I don't really know.

the studio claims someone played the wrong track. There was supposedd to be just backup vocals to the song, but they played the wrong track, which was the full song of the first song she played that night.

I really couldn't give a shit...Don't care about pop music, I assume alot of pop singers lip sync anyway...

Although I do wish Ashlee would go back to being a blonde...She doesn't look good with black hair...Eck...

One thing: She talked with no problem at the end of the show.

I was pretty speechless when it happened on TV. Since it's appeared all over the media, even in my college newspaper, I'd say it's worthy of a little discussion.

Yes it is important to realise that modern pop artists suck.
