Request program with 3rd party server
 
I know there are a few requester programs out there to use. My question is: How does one incorporate any of these programs when streaming to an external server, in my case StreamGuys?

Any help is much appreciated!

The important thing is that the requestor operates on the source program [WinAMP?] and machine, not necessarily on the DNAS part of the ShoutCAST.

You may have to do some fiddling to allow http hits to your source machine [is it local?].

Yes, the source machine is local. Goes right from WinAmp, through the DNAS to Streamguys.

Is StreamGuys a relay to you?

The request application either must have local file access to the playlist files, or it would have to be able to change the source playlist through the network [http maybe?]

If your souce and DNAS is at home, for example, you would need to have "something" running on the home PC -- most request apps have a web interface [perl?], so you can admin and service requests through the same web front end. They also make a database for tracking your library.

The DNAS is not really involved, regardless of where it is.

Yes, the source and DNAS is on the home computer. I sorta understand what you're saying. What I don't get is how one streams that to the server (Streamguys). Are you saying that all apps pretty much have to go through my home PC, and then to the server?

To manipulate the playlist, yes -- The playlist is the "source," so it "happens" before the downsample to your "broadcast" stream rate, before the "stream" becomes a stream in the ShoutCAST DSP, and before the DNAS.

The point is the application can run as links on a remote website to a website application running on your home computer that can manage the requests.
