It was an ice-age which killed most living organisms on Earth. *Maybe* The next way is by drowning everything. Maybe seem far fetched (or maybe it doesn't?), but where i live they found a fossil of a fish that normally comes from Afica. Maybe it floated when the Earth flooded :D
