UK folks, question about Jersey

much to my dismay i have just received a VAT demand when i got my new DVD's ordered for the otherwise splendid internetshop play.com which is based in Jersey

Regulations are clear on this area, if you buy goods within the EU, you do not have to pay toll, and you only have only to pay VAT equal to the VAT in the country the seller is registered in.

So my question is - aren't Jersey a part of the European Union? or do they have some special arangement?

cause this kinda sucks

138 DKK - DVD Price
48 DKK - Toll administration fee
12 DKK - VAT of administration fee
34 DKK - 25% Danish Sales Tax (VAT)
-------------------------------
232 DKK new DVD price :-(

The short answer is yes, Jersey is part of the EU, but special concessions have been made regards tax.
