looking for a program
is there a program that can shut down windows at a certain time? like if i leave my computer on the program will have the computer shut down at 1 a.m. or whatever time i set it to. is there anything like that?
I think theres a winamp plugin, but I don't remember what it's called.
i've only found one plugin but it doesn't have a set time option in it.
Windows can :)
Control Panels - Scheduled Tasks - Add Scheduled Task When prompted for a program to run, click "Browse..." and go to <windows dir> (probably C:\windows) then the system32 folder in there, then the select the file "Shutdown.exe". Select the date and time you want, then make sure you check the "open advanced options" thing before you click finish. When you get the advanced options, add " -s" to the bit that ends with shutdown.exe ("command" most likely). Voila. |
i don't see a "shutdown.exe" anywhere. i forgot to mention i'm running win2kpro.
what does the -s do?
My Guess:
automatically shutsdown rather than bringing up the shutdown, restart, stand by prompt |
Yeah. The "-s" stands for "silent," as in not requiring input. :)

You can adjust the energy stuff in the desktop properties to shutdown HD & monitor after certain hours idle
i would do that but the HD doesn't support it. otherwise i would.
Just in case, shutdown.exe comes natively with WinXP, for 2k it is in the resource kit CD. Anyway, if you want to use it, get it here.
