Terrorism Bill Finally Passed?
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The House of Representatives voted Tuesday to approve the intelligence reorganization bill that had been held in committee for weeks.
The bill is likely to reach the Senate on Wednesday. President Bush has said he will sign it. The legislation, drawn from recommendations made by a independent commission that reviewed intelligence failures that led up to the September 11, 2001, attacks, would overhaul the U.S. intelligence community. It would put most assets and budgets under the newly created post of national intelligence director. The bill stalled November 20 when House Armed Services Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter and House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner persuaded House Speaker Dennis Hastert not to bring it to the House floor for a vote. "The president and the vice president's interventions with House members were absolutely key in moving this bill forward," she said, "and I'm very grateful for the president's strong leadership in this regard." Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Connecticut, said that the bill honors the memory of those killed in the 9/11 attacks and vastly improves the intelligence system. "We do substantial work in improving our border security, our transportation security, information sharing, standardized driver's licenses, which will help eliminate fraud from the identification process," Lieberman said. http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/...ill/index.html |
Finally Passed?
Bills are supposed to move slowly in our legislature system. It's a good thing. typo |
Three years is plenty long enough, don't you agree?
Anyway once it does I can finally say Dubya accomplished something good on his watch. This was furthered by him telling his own party to get off their asses and get this passed. |
Sounds good to me. I like Liberman too, I wish he had been nominated.

I hope someone went over that bill with fine-toothed comb. Wasn't there an uproar over another bill about to be passed that had a "hidden" attachment concerning taxes and personnal information?
I hope nothing has been sneaked in to come back later to kick us in the ass. |

Odd about this is for any normal person you need your birth certificate and social security card to get an ID or drivers license so I have no idea how illegal aliens with neither can get a license. Who knows, maybe the drivers license manual reads differently in non-english versions now. |

I know here in Oregon that illegals are allowed to get a license with very little paperwork and it's not right. Illegals shouldn't be allowed to get a license in the first place. As far as I'm concerned the minute they try to get one and it's found they're here illegally they should be placed under arrest and the deportation process should start ASAP. |
Makes perfect sense. From what I read they are going to revisit this right after the new year.
I can definately agree with the fact that anyone who doesn't even belong in our country legally not only should not be given a drivers license much less being arrested on the spot and deported. If you ask me being able to get plates on your car should probably be lumped in there as well since they will jsut drive without a license if you keep them from having the right to drive but still allow them to get plates on a car. |

Ah yes, the Republican Propaganda Machine. If I was wondering where Iraqu Bob the Propaganda Man went to I know now.
"In exposing the inner workings of a "fear society," the authors explain why democracy is not beyond any nation's reach, why it is essential for our security and why there is much that can be done to promote it around the world. " Wonder if the 'fear society' is anything like "There is an imminent danger that terrorists are likely to strike a targtet this holiday weekend therefore the terror alert has been changed to TEAL! Get out the plastic and duct tape and seal yourself in your bomb shelter. Don't let this keep you from shopping at all our corporate donators though" Teal damnit, everone hit the deck! |
What's wrong with that book? the description sounds like it basically says tyranny and despotism = bad, democracy = good.
Do you disagreee with that idea? |
