!!!

mark 12th December 2004 16:23

what?

YtseJam 12th December 2004 16:23

Check out the full-length track samples of Portnoy's "The Anatomy of Melancholy" album.

Also, if you manage to find it, check out Spock's Beard's "Octane" album.

Be sure to buy it if you like it enough.

Mr Jones 12th December 2004 16:31

I'd search for track names rather than band name :D

mark 12th December 2004 16:33

i listened to the sample on their site, and didnt think much of it. no offense, but did you look at the playlist i posted?

gaekwad2 12th December 2004 16:44

I can't find any new bands myself but these albums would fit quite well into your list imo (in no particular order).

Prong - Beg To Differ
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - Now I Got Worry
Laibach - Opus Dei
The Fall - Dragnet
Voivod - Dimension Hatröss & Nothingface (latter includes a great version of PF's Astronomy Domine)
NoMeansNo - Wrong
Shellac - At Action Park
Big Black - Atomizer/The Rich Man's 8-Track Tape (name of the extended CD version)
Fugazi - 13 Songs
Buzzcocks - Another Music In A Different Kitchen
Helmet - Meantime

k_rock923 12th December 2004 18:46

wow. you like floyd and dream theater and a lot of other good bands. I don't see any queen there though. I see you like some heavy bands like megadeath and pantera. check out diecast. also try 'in flames' and 'opeth'

mark 12th December 2004 19:12

can anyone reccomend anything simliar to mogwai? i have plenty of metal (but will still try all the ons gaekwad and krock mentioned) but am short on the other genres in my collection.

My dad loves queen, i'll probably rip a few of his CDs later...

billyvnilly 12th December 2004 23:48

you have to try this website:

http://www.musicplasma.com/

its really slick

gaekwad2 13th December 2004 02:20

Yeah it looks very slick, but the number of artists seems quite limited.

Allmusic's similar artists/influences list contains a lot more entries.

billyvnilly 13th December 2004 02:29

yes allmusic is god. i saw musicplasma in an old pcmagazine. it is limited. allmusic is great for everything...similar artist kicks arse

k_rock923 13th December 2004 02:33

allmusic takes ages and ages to load for me. it takes even longer on the linux comp. although once it finally does load, it is awesome.

i was looking for that EXACT site yesterday!

corkhead0 13th December 2004 18:55

Judging by your list, you like mostly classic rock, alt rock, grunge, punk, power-thrash metal, power metal and prog metal.

I recommend:
Judas Priest - Painkiller + Screaming For Vengeance
Metal Church - Metal Church
Overkill - Taking Over
Heathen - Breaking The Silence + Victims Of Deception
Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
Annihilator - Alice In Hell
Tankard - Beast Of Bourbon
The Tea Party - Slendor Solis + The Edges OF Twilight
Exodus - Bonded By Blood + Tempo Of The Damned

chick chick chick (or chk chk chk).

They're a great band, they carry a post-punk feel. :)

mark 15th December 2004 15:56

i'll see if i can download an album somewhere. free samples allways sound crap anyway...

mysterious_w 17th December 2004 18:48

The Mad Capsule markets are a crazy japanese band, but ignore their latest album (cistm konflict) because, well, it's crap.
