Number One on the Music Charts in Germany

Joy Gruttman has the number one hit song in Germany. Her family posted the song on a web site as a joke, but a radio station in Koln got a hold of it and turned it into a hit!

Gruttman is the youngest recording artist to make it to the German Top 10, let alone No. 1.

"Snappy" beat out songs by Kylie Minogue and Linkin Park. The song is even appearing as remixes in German dance clubs.

Oh, by the way...Joy is only 4 years old!

Mr Jones 11th January 2005 07:37

Man, anything can get to the top of the charts these days, in fact Mrs Jones only made some comment coming home in the car that you only need to sell a single to a few friends and family these days to get to the top, I was thinking of having a go myself :D

ShyShy 11th January 2005 07:52

Well, Jones, you could do a cover of Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots".

Had to say it. :D

SSJ4 Gogitta 11th January 2005 10:59

Yea, I think I'll stick to Rammstein.

Wolfgang 11th January 2005 11:33

Reminds me of that french kid about 10 years ago, Jordi I think. He was about 4 I think.

xzxzzx 11th January 2005 15:56

*rocks out*

mysterious_w 11th January 2005 16:01

The chorus is the daftest thing I've heard in a long time.

electricmime 11th January 2005 16:06

honestly, who names their kid joy anymore?

besides these people, of course

Bilbo Baggins 11th January 2005 21:39

I heard this a few days ago. It beats any of the manufactured SHITE that comes out of the Music Biz these days.

Mrs_Mia_Wallace 11th January 2005 22:17

Wow...now I recieve German TV and radio and I haven't heard about it yet because I usually don't keep up with stuff like that.

It's a funny children song but I wouldn't buy it nor listen to it more than 3 times :D I found out now it was spread over internet communities in Germany first because they put the song online as a joke, it was never meant ot be released seriously, then everyone suddenly linked to it and downloaded it, everybody knew it who was in a German forum - much like the 'badger' thing I guess, would you buy that one if it came out on CD? ;)

Anyway, here's a quick translation of the lyrics fo rthose who want to know.

I am Snappy, the little crocodile.
I'm from Egypt, that's right at the Nile.
First I was laying in an egg.
Then I sni- sna- snapped myself free.

[chorus]
Sni- Sna- Snappy
Snappy Snappy Snapp
Sni- Sna- Snappy
Snappy Snappy Snapp

I am Snappy the little crocodile,
have sharp teeth and many of them too.
I snap what I am able to snap
Yes I snap because I'm good at that.

[chorus]

I am Snappy the little crocodile,
I like to snap, it's my favourite game.
I'm sneaking up to mommy
and show her how I can snap.

[chorus]

I am Snappy, the little crocodile,
and I can't get enough of snapping.
I bite my father in the leg for a short time,
and then, then I fall asleep again.

[chorus]

Bilbo Baggins 11th January 2005 22:20

I am listening to it right now :D

Schmeet 11th January 2005 22:36

It sounds a bit skary in some bits... lets all skank :igor:

xzxzzx 12th January 2005 13:33

Hehe, that's cute. Thanks for the translation, Mia.

Too-DAMN-Much 12th January 2005 13:39

Mia : is it true you guys have to pay a fee for having a tv/radio in your house there in germany? (an online GF told me this)

Wolfgang 12th January 2005 14:54

It's true for TV in the UK. It's about £125 (slightly over $200) for a colour TV.

Mrs_Mia_Wallace 12th January 2005 21:12

Too-DAMN-Much - Yes, but most people cheat their way around it, for examle my brother moved from one city to the next and he knew it would take years until the DMV would tell the TV business that collects the fees that he did move so he just wrote them himself telling them that he moved to Switzerland to his little sister (=me) so for more than half a year now he didn't have to pay anything.

I still think that the fee is a good thing because it's what pays the federal TV stations (the only ones that are bearable when it comes to news and real informations, the others that finance themselves through commercials usually just show talk shows, and other stupid stuff) and without it they cannot maintain their quality.

I have to admit though that I don't pay the fee for my TV (don't have a radio) right now either because I didn't know it was the same in Switzerland and no one ever told me, now I'm too lazy to apply.

Sorry for the offtopic, lets get back to Snappy :D

Mia:)

Bilbo Baggins 12th January 2005 21:15

The TV Tax is one of the worst things you have to pay to the authorities IMHO.

Wolfgang 13th January 2005 13:42

Would you evade council/income tax if you found a way to do it without getting caught?

Mrs_Mia_Wallace 13th January 2005 14:26

I don't have to pay income tax since I don't have an income or it's not big enough that I have to pay taxes for it. :D

I'd pay the TV tax if I really supported the German federal channels with it which are pretty good in my opinion but here I'd pay for the Swiss ones I never watch, I only watch the German and Austrian channels so I don't really see why I should support them.

Mia:)

Wolfgang 13th January 2005 15:01

But if you were supposed to pay income tax, and found a way without getting caught evading it, would you? I suppose what I'm getting at is "would you feel guilty?"

I used to watch German TV in Denmark. The ads are really funny (because they're so naff).

mark 13th January 2005 15:12

BBC has no ads. its a godsend. It pains me to watch sky one these days, and i actively avoid tv when in america. (if dad puts it on, i'll go read or something)

No because these are useful taxes that benefit me.

Phyltre 13th January 2005 22:05

Yeah, see...

we don't have these "useful taxes" in the US.
