sound card driver needed

i have a Rockwell RipTide combo card and i need the drivers for it in linux but i'm unable to find what i need. i've googled for it several times. i have installed Knoppix 3.4, to my extra HD.

I'm looking for it now for you and I'll see if I find anything. But good luck for two reasons. Rockwell is an obscure company whose products are not all that compatibale with linux. Especially, it's modems. I had a rockwell modem once and It was so hard to get running under linux that I eventually gave up and set up a proxy from my other PC for internet connections. Second, if it doesn't work with knoppix right from the get-go you are going to have a difficult journey ahead of you.

edit// found it:

i've already tried that site. nothing worked for me. i'm not worried about the modem part. i want my music back in linux. i wish my old sound card wouldn't have bitten the dust(CMI 8738 chipset).

are you sure that the correct drivers are being used. even though you've installed them, your system might still be loading the drivers for your old card

deeder7001 20th February 2005 02:27

i always got an error message when trying to install the drivers. the error message only says "riptide" and that's it. it did the same thing in SuSE 9.1.

maybe this from the website "On some systems, it might be necessary to disable the "PnP OS" BIOS option if it exists." I didn't see anything on the site about that error on the site though. Did you try installing as root or a normal user. Although I think if it was something with permissions, it would say that.

deeder7001 20th February 2005 02:39

i tried as root. it wouldn't let me try anything when i was in the regular user account deally. i'll check for the PnP OS thing though. i'll have to boot back into Knoppix as i'm in Windows XP right now.

now my luck has changed. my old sound card came back from the dead. i'm not sure what made it stop working but it's working again. it has a CMI 8738 LX chipset, which is supported by linux. screw the Rockwell RipTide combo card i have my surround sound card back.:D :D i'm so happy.:D
