I know that Pabook has a thread like this, with people telling that they used it, and what their name is, so I was wondering, does anyone here not on Pabook use it? Also, I just got it, and I was going to check the list on Pabook, but its down right now, so Pabookians post here too.

Its a program that utilizes VOIP technology to make phone calls over the internet.

Basically, you can have voice conversations with people on the internet. And it works!

Honestly, I don't see the point of it. Why not just do a voice IM?

I use Skype quite a bit. I hardly ever use it for VOIP; I use it as my default chat program for text stuff rather than using MSN or Yahoo or whatnot. It uses P2P technology for its text chat and all chats are encrypted.

edit: the chat feature is still a bit buggy, but given that it's such a good prog overall with frequent updates, I think the bugs will be worked out fairly soon.

we use it to talk to our cousin who is in Korea teaching, and we are in CA, so it beats paying long distance costs

it was cool for about five minutes, I rarely talk much on the phone to begin with...

Skype's a nice bit of software, very good IM facilities, especially for a P2P app.
