I'm working on a new skin

Hi everyone! I'm a noob in this forum! :D I hope you're not too mean! :p

I'm working on a new skin. Actually it's not a completely new skin. It's based on my old skin "Dee-Zign 2" - http://www.winamp.com/skins/details.php?id=132105
The name of the new skin is "Dee-Zign X".

Dee-Zign X - http://hem.passagen.se/deejaypee/skin.htm (then klick on the "main" link)

Now I need some advice about the design! Feel free to make any sugestion! :)

PS. Excuse my English, I'm not too good at the language..

It looks like a very good skin, but to be honest, I like "Dee-Zign 2" better. With some tweaking though, I think this one has the possibility to be even better.

Okay, thanks! :) Any idea of what I can improve?

If I may, you might want to liven things up by doing some other colors. While the green on black does have that 'matrix-like' connotation and is therefore somewhat cool in spots. I feel that you have overdone it. Also, may I ask the purpose of the "VOL/BAL///" under the visualization area?

Mr Jones 5th March 2005 15:26

Use Orange insted of green, it'd get my vote.

Yeah, that's a good idea! I think that blue would be nice. The "VOL/BAL///" is there because there was no space left in the volume/balance areas. Maybe it was a bad idea to put it where it is!? :P

Yeah, orange is a cool looking color on black background! :) But, what do you think of iceblue?

I think you could probably just get rid of the vol/bal things altogether. most people can figure out where those ares are. Blue would look cool. I think jones suggested orange because hardly anybody makes orange skins and its a cool color also. either would work i think. :)

Yeah, I think so too. But I also want my skin to be user friendley. That's true, I havn't seen many orange skins. I think I choose blue anyway. It's a nice color. :)

Schmeet 5th March 2005 18:05

Blue is really overused though  I think you should go with orange if you want to make a skin vibrant.

Hi again! :)

I'm still working on my skin "Dee-Zign X". I chose orange as color theme. Hope you guys are happy! :p

The link is http://hem.passagen.se/deejaypee/skin.htm (then use the "work in progress" link to se a picture)

There are still some green parts left from the old skin and the 3D-effect is still missing.

Please, give me some feeding!

k_rock923 11th March 2005 01:00

Looking good. You might want to ease up on the transparency though.

jerimiah40 11th March 2005 02:51

Yeah, definately ease up on the transparency. Also, maybe change the volume bar, I don't know, I just don't really like it. Also, the playlist inactive text color is too dark, I just got a new moniter, and found out what people always mean by their moniter being dark. But anyways, yeah, I can't even see any of the songs except for the one that is currently playing. But other than that, its a great skin, really like the orange color! Once this is done, I will definately use it!

StillWater 11th March 2005 08:40

That's a very decent-looking skin. :) Here are some things I noted down about it while I was looking at it:

-The mainmenu button (the one on the top left) looks kinda cool floating, but it will be very hard to press, and will frequently blend badly with the background. Try giving it a bit of a grey plastic 'frame'. So it would still be floating, but surrounded by a little bit more skin.

-Try some more interesting typography in areas like the nums_ex, monoster, on/auto/preset, and text.bmp regions (the latter is never easy). Try something a bit funkier, and possibly in italics, to suit the style of your "Dee-Zign" title.

-The EQ bars look fine, but they are a little boring. The EQ bars are a great place to really give your skin some flair, by making some interesting and eye-catching animations.

-The "info info info info infinfo" stuff in the PL is not a good idea, since it will all bunch up like it has in places in the screenshot.

-At the moment, you have a graded VIS. I'd suggest trying a 'two-tone' one, as I think they usually suit LCD type skins better. See the one in this skin for an example (oh, that's one of my skins! how did that get there! :D)
