Stream DVD/Video file

Someone posted on our web board this question here

is there any way to stream a DVD or a MPEG (from a DVD) to other computers over a local lan (wireless or wired) to other winamps?

I am firmiliar with NSV capture, and streaming NSV video, but I'm not sure is there is a tool or method for this

I use Nevo Media Server for such tasks.

You could also use Video Lan ( open source and free ) www.videolan.org

How would you deal with the encryption on the disks?. Even if you mount the DVD as a shared file, it still needs decoding to play.

With videolan etc. You'd need to make a decoded MPEG2 and then broadcast it through a shouter. The bitrate of a commercial DVD disk will tax a wireless connection.

I looked at the other post, it said this was to be used on an airplane. You can't even use a cell phone on an airplane. Boy!, wouldn't that be cool if airplanes were wireless "hot spots".

In a non-network environment, I would suggest usb memory sticks. Encode some movies, with whatever, Real would be my fave for on-demand, maybe encode at 350 kbps. Guessing, but that should be 150MB an hour (or so). Get a USB memory stick, copy the files around the laptops.

Here's my patented network synchronization technique!.

READY, SET, GO .

They're gonna make you wear ear-gear to listen on the plane, so a sec or two difference isn't gonna make that much difference.

Necessary equipment for multimedia travel. Get a couple of headphone splitters. Hopefully the steward/-ess will want to sit on your lap and watch the movie too, as long as your not flying Southwest :-).

A couple extra sets of headphones, and some earbuds, so that you can go one-eared and have a conversation.

It's especially good if you can find headphones that have inline volume controls.

Cool, a trip.... like leaving...... wouldn't that be nice.

Only if there's 2 or 3 on the receiving end of it. Remember, max bitrate of 54G Wireless is 54 Mbits/sec, but that's just it's peak. It's more like 20 or 30 Mbits/sec, 54 Mbits/sec is the absolute max. Provided you set up your hardware right.:D

I like your style.;) Not sure if this would be allowed in Britain though. Bloody Nanny state!

Is this a tried and tested technique?;)

More like, only if you have the dlink which offers the 108. 54mbits is duplex, it's 27Mb each way (if it works like wirelessB...)
