When undercover investigators made their way onto Chinese fur farms recently, they found that many animals are still alive and struggling desperately when workers flip them onto their backs or hang them up by their legs or tails to skin them. When workers on these farms begin to cut the skin and fur from an animal's leg, the free limbs kick and writhe. Workers stomp on the necks and heads of animals who struggle too hard to allow a clean cut. When the fur is finally peeled off over the animals' heads, their naked, bloody bodies are thrown onto a pile of those who have gone before them. Some are still alive, breathing in ragged gasps and blinking slowly. Some of the animals' hearts are still beating five to 10 minutes after they are skinned. One investigator recorded a skinned raccoon dog on the heap of carcasses who had enough strength to lift his bloodied head and stare into the camera.

that sucks.

China is pretty messed up. my fiance's father goes to china often for business, he says there are resturaunts there with petting zoos outside. Basically you choose which of the various live animals you want and they take it and cook it up for you.

squakMix 21st March 2005 03:44

I've heard of that in America also (in some places), but have never actually seen one.

ScorLibran 21st March 2005 03:49

Geez, that's almost enough to make me give up leather goods entirely.

/me eyes with suspicion the closet full of leather jackets, lambskin wallet, the seats and door panels in my car..... :weird:

hgnis 21st March 2005 03:55

I really don't like leather all that much anyway...

I still don't see what it has to do with Jesus but ok.

MidnightViper88 21st March 2005 20:13

The animals are gonna go to Jesus' farmland now

:rolleyes::confused:

I'd bet there are lobster tanks in eateries all over the world. The petting zoo is the same practice, carried a little farther. Have you ever heard a lobster scream when they hit the hot water?

MidnightViper88 21st March 2005 20:48

Lobsters are stupid...Their brains are too small to feel pain...Flip 'em upside down, and there would be so much blood and fluid rushing in that miniscule dome that it will be knocked unconscious...

Phyltre 21st March 2005 22:26

It's funny that someone could read that article and think "gee, look how bad China is!"

I can't even formulate a response to that.

Because a fur's origin can't be traced, anyone who wears any fur at all shares the blame for the horrific conditions on Chinese fur farms. The only way to prevent such unimaginable cruelty is never to wear any fur.

Oh, no! Somebody found animal abuse in a fur farm, let's all stop wearing fur! Don't buy second-hand goods, you may be supporting terrorists!

MidnightViper88 21st March 2005 22:35

At least we play soccer with our chickens and have fun with them before we kill them for food supply...

I don't wear fur. I do wear leather; as I eat cow and pig.I try to buy Free Range. I have seen many many specials on fur farms both here and abroad. It makes one sick. It is done slowl and very painfully to the animals.
Fur looks best, to me, on it's original owner.:)

ps. Boiling a Lobster? Put Beer or a splash of Voodka in water..It supposedly helps dull the pain.

mysterious_w 24th March 2005 11:25

I see no reason to even wear real fur, isn't fake fur just as good looking and cheaper (plus it would creep me out that I was wearing an animal's skin)

Widdykats 24th March 2005 11:57

Most "faux" fur doesn't look as good. But cashemre looks wonderful.:D

er, china is a pretty big human rights abuser, it's not really that suprising that this happens to animals there.

FYI, the humane way to boil a lobster is to put it in cool water and heat it up very slowly until boiling. Lobsters are cold blooded and if you increase the temp slowly enough they won't notice it.

I doubt that vodka or beer thing works since the boiling temp of water is 20 degrees Centigrade hotter than the boiling temp of alcohol so any alcohol you put in the water will boil out first.

S-uper_T-oast 25th March 2005 06:05

Not to be "insensitive" but doesn't humane refer to humans?

Phyltre 25th March 2005 18:35

What I'm saying is, you can't allow a few news stories to stereotype your perception of an entire country (especially one as big as China.)

If you haven't been there, or taken years to study it openmindedly, you officially don't have an opinion on the country.

Mattress 25th March 2005 19:14

ha, you think people have to have knowledge of something to have an opinion on it? LOL
