Windows Media Center Edition
I got a media center remote real cheap... free! I've got a legal copy of Windows Media Center Edition 2005 from my MSDN subscription. I've got an Athlon 64 FX with a Radeon All-In-Wonder...
So I'm wondering... is it worth the effort to install it? Googled, but found little on what I'd like to know... If you have used a MPC... What was your impression? and was it 2004 or 2005? Also, does anyone know how to hack the MPC remote if you are not using Windows Media Center Edition? |
My dad has Media Center PC 2004 with the remote and he watches TV and listens to radio on it all the time. From what I can tell, the only diff. between a MC and regular XP is just the media center software and thats it. Oh and make sure theres something that will pick up the remote signal.

I guess it will be useful for my media pc, if i ever get roudn to building the darn thing.

I got the receiver with the remote... its got two IR outputs for the cable and TV.
I've got a couple of removable drive cradles... I think I'll set it up on a second drive and try it out. |
I'm running windows XP media center on this computer. I've got an Athlon 1400 and a radeon all-in-wonder 7500. I don't have a media center remote, I've got the RF remote that came with the radeon. I don't use it much though, mostly just to turn down the volume when I'm over in bed.
I haven't used any of the media center software yet, so I can't comment on that. |
Media center does some pretty cool things, and has a shinier interface. The difference is noticeable if you're actually using your computer as a media center, and not if you're not.
