Here are all the APEs...

Lol, I realize most people don't care. But I got a hold of all the APEs that have been used for Winamp. Be warned, a lot of these may crash Winamp, and I understand that none of the old 3D APEs will work in Win XP. But as a historical oddity, if you are interested, reply here and I will zip them up for you. I would do it anyway, but there are a couple of dozen of them and some are quite big.:D

jheriko 29th March 2005 04:29

3D ape?

/me chokes on the memory of ever using it

[Ishan] 29th March 2005 05:04

ugh....there have already been many threads like these
and anyway i guess all of us have the APE's that we need, expect that those "newbies" need them....

beeferoni 29th March 2005 07:47

Right you are, Ishan. The one thread that lists all of the apes (before this) was very messy an long, full of broken links and defunct sites. I figured This would be a little cleaner, considering nobody is going to be asking for them anyway (much less than from a noob like me). :D

^..^ 29th March 2005 09:44

you're idea is surely generous and well-meant, but i guess a bit unnecessary. Cause as ishan said already the frequent people here have all required ape's. Of course, new people need them, but to be honest how many noobs came here in the past time?

jheriko 29th March 2005 15:20

Your negative attitudes are all well and good.. but the old page is a pile of poo. It might be better to have a cleaner list. You'll appreciate it when you need to find a lot of apes for whatever reason. (reformat etc...)

beeferoni 29th March 2005 18:03

Thanks, jheriko. Hm, but I'm thinking maybe I should just go ahead and zip up each APE individually and post them one at a time here. Or should I just go ahead and wait for someone to ask? (And all the time this thread is getting longer and messier...);)

[Ishan] 30th March 2005 10:26

well if you have to post the thread, the i'll suggest that you get this thread deleted by UCD, start a whole new thread with properly formatted post(s) contaning all the APE's (in zip files individually, coz i think that links can get broken somehow) with a short description of the APE, what it does, its maker and version no.
Then get the thread locked and stickied by UCD again :)

I guess that would be fair enough.

beeferoni 31st March 2005 04:00

Ok, how about it, UnConeD?

Warrior of the Light 31st March 2005 12:09

Another thought: What about it if we'd get some (free?) webhost that stores all the .APE's that are no longer being developed to prevent that list from aging?

jheriko 31st March 2005 13:30

you might want to post a preliminary list here or something so we can tell you which ones you missed too :P

^..^ 31st March 2005 13:39

Is this going to be a complete list of all ape's available? Or just the generally used ones? However it's going to be, shouldn't we point out which ape's are most common?

TomyLobo 31st March 2005 13:43

we should rule some out, like that stickman ape :P

^..^ 31st March 2005 13:56

yeah, but by which criterions do we decide wether to list an ape up or not?

mysterious_w 31st March 2005 13:57

I once tried to make an .ape site, went down like a lead ballon here.

TomyLobo 31st March 2005 13:58

i think we shouldnt list narrow-purpose APEs
also we shouldnt list outdated apes (like setlinewidth, sorry shreyas :))

also we should restrict the number of APEs that dont enhance AVS's capabilities or speed for a particular purpose
that would include these:
RGB Filter: can be done easily with color modifier
Screen Reverse: can be done with movement
Negative Strobe: noone wants crappy strobe effects :P also, this can be easily done with color modifier

^..^ 31st March 2005 14:14

although, it would be interesting to see how many ape's we can collect. ;)
We can still clean up the list afterwards...

beeferoni 31st March 2005 15:58

Jeez, I should have known that there would be apes I don't have. here's a list of all the ones I've come across I suppose they are pretty common after all. (I never even heard of 'stickman').

3d.ape meatballs3d.ape
AddBorder.ape multifilter.ape
amoeba.ape multiplier.ape
avs_edge.ape NegativeStrobe.ape
avsgrabber.ape pfavs.ape
colormap.ape picture2.ape
convolution.ape player2.ape
conway.ape RGBfilter.ape
flame.ape saver.ape
flock.ape ScreenReverse.ape
fluid.ape slideshow.ape
FramerateLimiter.ape texer.ape
firewurx.ape texer2.ape
ifs.ape triangle.ape
tv.ape
vf.ape
vf2.ape
VfxAviPlayer.ape

Obviously I listed 'narrow purpose' apes and ones already integrated into winamp. I am a newbie, so I don't remember all the apes that may have been around over the last few years. Also obviously, I am going to need help on this. I suggest we all list all the apes we can think of and then a couple of people will have to go back and clean up the list, and then finally any apes that are not actually owned by someone here will have to be searched out, or at least find out for sure if they exist anymore. (I had a bitch of a time finding tv.) Oh, and incidentally, my idea was to collect ALL the apes we can. Yes negative strobe looks crappy and is easily accomplished by other means, so are tv and conway for that matter. I thought the list should be more comprehensive than 'useful'. (I can't even get 'ifs.ape' to apply. It crashes my winamp every single time.)

Warrior of the Light 31st March 2005 16:05

how about updating the List of wa5 avs files & effects thread with the final list? (and removing those useless posts while a mod's at it)

beeferoni 31st March 2005 16:12

OOps, forgot a bunch.

buffer.ape
channelshift.ape
colorreduction.ape
delay.ape

Tuggummi 31st March 2005 20:58

Oh great.... another n000b who has a "goood" idead

I have an idea... why don't you go...

[size=6=]Fuck Yourself!!![/size]

^..^ 31st March 2005 21:10

erm... tug are you following in atero's footsteps?

back to topic: what about a decent sorted list? would've been nice if it was arranged alphabetically and one below the other :p
btw you're able to edit a post for 3 hours after you posted it, just click this handy button: http://forums.winamp.com/images/edit.gif

finaly two more apes's:

cls_dynamic.ape Dynamic Clear Screen
vjcontrol.ape VJ Control

beeferoni 31st March 2005 23:02

Aww, is that nice Tuggummi? I never said it was a 'good' or even a useful idea. I'm running it up the flagpole to see who salutes, that's all. Some people seem to find it an interesting enough idea to be discussing it. I'm sorry you don't feel the same. Gee, I hope everybody doesn't drop out now because the Great Tuggummi thinks it's stupid. :p (Tugg, I am still a fan.) I am the first to admit I'm noob, but I daresay even the best AVSer was once a newbie. Except maybe PAK-9 and UCD.:D

Anyway...Yes, back to the topic at hand. Once I get the ones I missed I will go back and put them in alpha order (I had them that way, but I tried to list them in collums. Obviously it didn't work. Hence the 2 posts.:hang: I always forget about the little edit button, damnit. I will go look for those 2 apes, ^..^ unless you yourself have them?

^..^ 31st March 2005 23:08

yeah, have them right here. just say how you want to receive them...

beeferoni 1st April 2005 02:08

I suppose you could zip them, unless you would rather send them through a messenger. Or e-mail them. It makes no difference to me. My mail is noahburge2b@yahoo.com, (or noahburge2b for yahoo messenger, or Noahburge2B for AOL messenger. Whatever is easiest for you.

^..^ 1st April 2005 10:13

mail is on the way!

[Ishan] 1st April 2005 16:13

Whatever happened to the specific AVS site thread that was started quite long ago.......

^..^ 1st April 2005 16:22

never heard of it, but after a quick search i guess it disappeared...
cause if you mean this 'project' then it stopped two years ago and nearly no one is still here!

[Ishan] 1st April 2005 16:37

yeah i meant that thread.

Nevermind, i guess starting a new thread is a lot more easier and faster than again going into the debates for a whole new AVS site.

beeferoni 1st April 2005 17:48

Yeah, that thread was a mess. Maybe once this list is compiled someone can start a site.

Thanks for sending those, ^..^ Now does anyone have any apes on their hard drive that arent on this list? I don't want to update it until we have all we can get. I guess we will have to leave out some. A couple of them just aren't available anymore.

^..^ 1st April 2005 22:11

btw who is interested in such a site? i mean who would offer the time to care about it and knows how to make it?

Yathosho 1st April 2005 22:35

not meatballs again ;)

UnConeD 2nd April 2005 01:08

You should remove the apes that have been integrated into avs (channel shift, multiplier, colorreduction). The integrated versions don't crash.

beeferoni 2nd April 2005 05:13

Ok, I will leave the integrateds out. Another quick question. Is RGB filter and Channel shift the same thing?

^..^ 2nd April 2005 10:17

no. rgb filter just disables/enables the red, green or blue channel. Whereas channelshift exchanges the channels among one another.

[Ishan] 2nd April 2005 10:56

so will you put up individual post with the details of APE's and their zips?

kinncs 2nd April 2005 13:55

hi all

where are the APEs and the ZIPs...

I want to have them all...

regards,
NCS

^..^ 2nd April 2005 14:38

beeferoni is just about collecting them, you must have a bit more patience ;)

beeferoni 2nd April 2005 16:55

Yes, I have been sick the last few days, so I haven't been up to much. I will have them up here as soon as I get the descriptions done. I promise within the next few days. :)

beeferoni 2nd April 2005 16:58

oh, except someone else needs to write a description for 'ifs.ape' because mine will not run at all. It makes my WA curl up in a little ball every time, so I don't even know what it looks like.
