? couldn't you just put jerimiah40@googlemail.com

(I wrote googlemail in case their is a reason you didn't post your email).

Are you worried about spam bots or something?

jerimiah40 3rd April 2005 04:21

I dunno, I guess I could have. But yeah, I'd rather not have spambots attacking my inbox, and I heard that it helped to not hyperlink to it directly. Now that I think about it though, it doens't make much sense. Is it true?

Yes

jerimiah40 3rd April 2005 04:23

Well, thats kinda fucked up. I'll have to play around with that. Anyone have any ideas what could be happening? Also, can somebody who has Opera or some other popular browser check it out for me?

Well even if you are worried about spam (which I don't htink you should here). Just put jerimiah40 @google.com - that way it's still easy to read but will not be picked up by any suspected bots.

there is no such thing as googlemail.com

PulseDriver 3rd April 2005 04:30

To get an idea, you should at least start checking the CSS with the jigsaw at w3c.org... here is the result I got:

http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/v...usermedium=all

mikm 3rd April 2005 04:31

Most everybody would realize that goooglemail.com == gmail.com and that he wrote it out "fully" to fool spambots and idiots.

Actually, now that you've utilized it in a post, technically, there is such a thing.

jerimiah40 3rd April 2005 04:49

Well, I validated the CSS, and got it to be fine. Than, I went to do the HTML, and it couldn't do it properly, because the first line wasn't a Doctype Declaration. In the file however, it is, but in the source code, its not. Why? Because, Geocities puts a whole bunch of shit in at the top for no apparent reason. So, I did it with the file saved on my computer, and when I do it like that, Its perfectly fine HTML 4.01 Transitional. So, the HTML is valid except for geocities 2 cents, and the CSS is fine as well. This is really messed up.

PulseDriver 3rd April 2005 04:52

Yes, but you don't need to validate the document with html, you can validate the css file separatly...

ElChevelle 3rd April 2005 04:53

Validate what you want, but we won't validate your existence here.

WRONG!

CHEV is smarter than everyone in winamp forums....

jerimiah40 3rd April 2005 04:54

I did validate the CSS file seperately, it said it was fine.

This is pissing me off, I'm starting a new thread for this.

ElChevelle 3rd April 2005 04:55

Great, can you call that one "I ate my own turds"?

PulseDriver 3rd April 2005 04:56

LOL! Where do you get all these ideas from... (really)

It's nothing wrong with it, but as a commercial webdeveloper, you should follow the w3c(http://www.w3c.org) recommendations, which recommend that you only use tables for data, eg. the periodic tabel, or buss departure info and such, where every cell (except those with the row/colum info) have the same type of data eg. atoms or buss departure times.
Validations of various sites:
google.com
yahoo.com
aol.com
amazon.com
cnn.com
weather.com
espn.com
microsoft.com
apple.com
nytimes.com
webmd.com
time.com
ebay.com
mapquest.com
sourceforge.net
winamp.com
adobe.com
macromedia.com
Man, I hope none of those sites paid for their web design because not one of them validates. :p
These are what I could think of off the top of my head. I'd be interested in finding out what popular websites actually do validate.

He should be a stand up comedian or comedy writer. And usually I say this to people who think they're funy but tell shitty jokes.

But this time I mean it. Chev is fucking hilarious.

The W3 site validates :p

The only popular non-geek website I know off the top of my head that validates is albinoblacksheep.

BigMoosie 4th April 2005 15:55

deviantart validates

PulseDriver 4th April 2005 21:51

Yes, but Deviant Art doesn't follow the recommendation of not using tables for layout.

zootm 4th April 2005 22:00

Every site listed is very old, also.

PulseDriver 4th April 2005 22:05

Well, I consider every site in XHTML to be quite new, I don't know what you mean about that zootm? :) Deviant Art uses XHTML 1.0 it starts off good with divs.. but once the tricky layout starts, it's tables all the way.

Yeah, I'm having some trouble with divs. They render differently in IE and other browsers. I find it hard to get things decent-looking across browsers.
