SSC metaballs

1 Attachment(s)
I´m totally nOOb with dM ,so i made an metaball-preset
based on a superscope.Not style optmized , it´s only a techdemo.

I´m waiting for feedback

eheiney 13th April 2005 19:35

It's a decent scope, but not exactly metaballistic. It's a good idea, though, if you're looking to cut back on the moving particles. ;)

hey that's a nice one! And what a coincidence: I've been working on the same idea, but decided to use texerII cause it looks a bit better. Unfortunately, mine is also an 'intermediate stage' preset (=unfinihsed).

But have a look yourself:

Tuggummi 13th April 2005 20:45

...

Guess what i've made for the next forum compilation?

^..^ 13th April 2005 20:54

you're kidding, aren't you?

Tuggummi 13th April 2005 20:57

Nope.

I guess I have to make something else now. Luckily i think i have an idea for a preset.

Here have a see at my version.

^..^ 13th April 2005 21:10

no no, you should keep it for the pack! Perhaps you could invert it?!
however.. remove the attachment as long as no one has seen it (i promise not to tell anybody!)

Tuggummi 13th April 2005 22:00

I can't delete it anymore :/

I'll make something new, this preset was more of a stupid "techdemo" anyway... Err not that i mean that the idea is bad or that your presets are bad, but... uhm... well... you know. ;)

Warrior of the Light 13th April 2005 22:05

:)

ASD5A: nice concept

^..^ 13th April 2005 22:07

yeah you're right tug, mine also started as a techdemo. It's kind of hard to turn it into something artistic afterwards...

i understand the critique on the partikle movement,
perhaps i should combine this techdemo with the unreleased gravsim engine.
here is something that can´t be done with a dm.

PAK-9 14th April 2005 15:16

Its sad what passes for a tech demo these days

Tuggummi 14th April 2005 15:47

Well excuse us oh high one! The 1337357 of them all 13375! May I kiss your f337?

Different people have different views on what's high on code and what's not. So for me making a texer II grid with using megabuf and then using more megabuf to code the blobs into the grid by merely "changing the colors"... well that does sort of strike me as a "techdemo" maybe it's not up to your extremely high standards, but for me done it for the first time it was pretty fucking awesome.

And no, im not really going to kiss your feet.

eheiney 15th April 2005 02:47

 I thought it was pretty fucking sweet, too, Tugg.

ASD5A 15th April 2005 20:21

strange:
the one that bitches most in this forum forgot to hit the "kick asd5a´s ass" button.

UnConeD 16th April 2005 00:23

I thought tug's preset was pretty nifty. I toyed with it a bit:

Tuggummi 16th April 2005 08:49

Ooh, smooth... *drool*

Nice tweaking coned :D

^..^ 16th April 2005 09:58

hey, that's cool!
nice work! :)

A colorlevel experiment, I noticed that an all-white additive Unique Tone didn't give an all white preset, which I did expect.
TomyLobo explained me at #FF, but guess what the experiments look like:

yup.

Well, sorry Tugg, I didnt mean to dump on your quote unquote tech demo...

But, just to prove how trivial this is, I went home and set myself a three hour time limit to make a better version of the same idea, and here it is.

Featuring a non-RGB colour scheme, easily changed width, height and number of blobs and its all packed into a single Render/Triangle. I even wrote it in super ugly AVS loop code so you dont need AVSTrans.

(Requires triangle.ape)

ASD5A 18th April 2005 17:16

another sign that dm-metaballs are going dowm .
well done pak-9

PAK-9 18th April 2005 17:19

I dont think DM metablobs are going down really, ssc/triangle/texer2 metablobs invariably have a lower resolution than a DM and are usually slower as well. Not to mention they are significantly more complicated to code.

Personally I think metablobs make for pretty boring presets, unless they are done exceptionally well.

^..^ 18th April 2005 19:36

cool one pak!

but in contrary to your opinion i find that texerII-metablob-presets have got the advantage to choose different textures for the blob. Of course my example is not that great, but with texerII you're able to create a different style of metablobs.

jheriko 19th April 2005 00:58

I want to see fast volumetric gas type metablobs :P

UnConeD 19th April 2005 02:27

Btw, change the texer2 frame code at the top to:
sizex=(w/280)*0.5*1.25 ; sizey=(h/280)*0.5*1.25;

Result: nifty almost-correct bilinear filtered plasma with just one texer.

(yes, I know it's slower than grid SSC + Movement)

PAK-9 19th April 2005 11:41

1 Attachment(s)
Here's a ssc/movement version of my preset, this way you can optionally enable bilinear filtering in the movement. I added comments into the code in case anyone want to read it too.

I dont really think texer2 versions of the idea look as good, yes you can change the image however if its not rectangular your just adding holes. Plus rendering a bitmap is slower than rendering points/lines/triangles(triangles are perhaps debatable)

Scar Da Kookee 19th April 2005 21:10

for some reason metaballs 3d and tenticles 3d crashes winamp for me O.o

meh

crappy lappy >.<

jheriko 20th April 2005 05:06

i might need to replace the metablobs in j10 with something better :/

There! Problem solved! :p

just so you know how out of date you all are here is something i made months ago for j10, it was the prelude to the bump 3d and sphere demo 'per-pixel' presets

PAK-9 20th April 2005 13:23

I'm still waiting for Tugg to admit that this sort of thing isnt a tech demo and kiss my f337.

jheriko 20th April 2005 13:37

Get ready for one long ass wait...

TomyLobo 20th April 2005 15:33

lasts at least as long as pak's cynism

jheriko 22nd April 2005 11:45

cynicism.

the german word zynismus is derived from the english cynicism i think... like a lot of german words with y in.

UnConeD 22nd April 2005 12:15

cynic
c.1550s, from Gk. kynikos, lit. "dog-like," from kyon (gen. kynos) "dog." Supposedly from the sneering sarcasm of the philosophers, but more likely from Kynosarge "Grey Dog," name of the gymnasium in ancient Athens where the founder, Antisthenes (a pupil of Socrates), taught. Diogenes was the most famous. Popular association even in ancient times was "dog-like." For nuances of usage of cynicism, see humor.

jheriko 22nd April 2005 12:21

you learn something new everyday.

Tuggummi 22nd April 2005 15:12

Though around the AVS forums it's never actually about AVS what you learn :D

jheriko 22nd April 2005 15:13

thats rather cynical...

Tuggummi 22nd April 2005 15:16

I thought i was being comical.

jheriko 22nd April 2005 15:18

It was both. Say, why am I not on #finnish-flash?
