Best dead version?

I'm sick of 20-30MB memory footprints. Which is the most compact past version which still retains necessary functions like plugins?

biggman15 19th April 2005 08:01

I don't know about Most compact, But Most plugins Require at least V2.5... Although With minimal plugins, Just What I use. My copy of V5 is down to 10 megs...

I'm assuming you are talking about winamp...

Which plugins did you remove? I've disabled basically all features besides input and have 12 plugins registered. The only ones I don't use are in_mod and in_cdda. Do I need these?

the main reason for the high apparent mem usage is when the program loads due to ensuring there's space for all of the dlls, etc to be able to load into (could be totally wrongon that though since i've not touched processing loading for a long time). if you minimise and then restore winamp it tends to stay around 8Mb for me but that's with around 30 gen plugins installed as well as all the defaults and i'm using classic skin.

as for what to remove, just remove the files that you don't need from the plugin lists (apart from the gen plugins), the filenames are listed next to them and you can see what filetypes, etc are supported by them so you can make an educated decision of what to remove

assuming that it takes 30mb of space, in the machine im on right now, that works out to be 3% of my available memory.

taking into account how much the memory in this machine cost, that works out to be $4.50 worth of memory.

However, its actually only using 5mb of memory (rounded up). Which is actually 0.5% of my available memory, or 75 whole cents of memory.

I got rid of the encoding plugins and some random ones leftover from the install and now the footprint is down to 8MB.

I knew there was a resolve. Thanks everyone.

biggest thing to kill is the modern skinning...

No Modern Skinns, Only MP3 Support... I did A clean install... And got rid of most of the Plugins I just didn't need...

mine takes up between 3 and 5 megabytes minimized, and that's with all audio plugins, no video support and a classic skin. since memory is ~$100 for 1024MB, that amounts to 50 cents' worth of memory. :p
