Winamp Sounds All Funky

When i play music with winamp while using the Headphones, i can only hear what i think is the background music instead of the fore ground music. However when i cut on the PC's speakers, the music plays just fine, but when i use my headphones the music sounds all funky, and thats when later on while listening to it, it sounds like it is only playing the music that most people don't normally hear that easily over the fore ground music.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem.

I have Direct Sound clicked, and have microsoft's updates for the sound device. It seems to be just the headphones, and it isn't the headphones themselves, its just playing music through it.

The same thing happens while i am using WMP 10. The headphones don't seem to work but the speakers do work.

What do you mean by funky? Static, choppy, muffled, background noises, screeches, unusual tones/beeps,etc?
Maybe one or more of the following...
  • From Troubleshooters – Common Issues...
No sound, skippy/choppy/crackly playback, high VM usage, etc.

Although not necessary, close Winamp, Windows and reboot the computer after making the DirectSound changes.
    _______________________________________________________________
  • Check the pre-amp volume in Winamp's equalizer (Too high, too low?).
  • Do you have any DSP/Effect plug-ins?
Make sure any DSP plug-ins are disabled. Winamp > Ctrl+P (for preferences) > Plug-ins > DSP/Effect select (none)
  • Have you updated the sounddrivers? If you have a soundcard go the manufacturer's website for updates. If you have an on board sound chip, go to the website of your computer provider or the manufacturer of the mother board.
No luck or the above is not it? Please provide system specs. Do you have any third party Winamp plug-ins?

:igor: Errr, did you edit your post as a reply? That is confusing.

Anyways, have you tried another pair of head phones? Are you using USB head phones?

Are you using some kind of surround setup?

I am not sure of why this is happening. This Winamp Tech. Support, since it is not specifically related to Winamp there may not be too much that we can tell you. Although, gaekwad may be on to something.
