ml_iPod is calling home

This is more of a comment than anything else.

I have check for new version and anonymous usage statistics turned off in Winamp and don't check for update checked in ml_ipod. But every so often ml_ipod tries to phone home (so to speak), my firewall catches the outgoing connection attempt from ml_ipod to it's web site. To answer the first question I am adware and spyware clean :)

I am just curious if anyone else has seen this or if Will can let us know what is going on.

It is not a significant issue because I have blocked that action.

Peace,

JMS (Donating user)

PS. Love the product, I have nearly stopped using Anapod Explorer and have never had iTunes loaded on my puter.

It is also very nice to see that ml_iPod will handle homemade .m4b bookmarkable files woohoo...

Yeah, its checking for new versions of ml_ipod. Its just grabbing a small file with a version number and a URL in.

To turn this off check "Don't check for updates" in the "General" section of the iPod Support preferences.

In the current version there is a bug whereby it will show this option to be off when no ipod is connected. You can disable it when an ipod is not connected, but the change won't show (even though it has been made) if you re-open the preferences.

If you have an ipod connected, this bug has no effect. This bug does NOT mean that it will update check after you have told it not to.

Donating users are my favorite type of user, thanks!

Thanks for the response

Will

I assumed it was something minor even though I have checked the box... Like I said no problem. The authors of great software need to be rewarded for their hard work... Just wish I could have sent more...

So its update checking even though you checked the box?

Hmm. I shall have to investigate this.

I've checked, and I can't reproduce this.

Is your winamp.ini file (normally located in c:\Program Files\winamp) set to read only?
You should be able to find the line
noupdatenotify=1
if the update checking is disabled.

jms969 9th May 2005 17:10

My winamp.ini file is in c:\Program Files\winamp and is not read only and noupdatenotify=1.

Now I am not able to reproduce it either (good I think:) )

I prolly thought that I had checked the no update box and hadn't. I will exercise it some and let you know if I can reproduct the event.

My appologies if i had you look for no good reason...

Peace
