3 wishes......

If you were given 3 wishes what would they be?
I'm sure someone has already done a thread like this but I don't care. Also there are a few rules to the wishes:

1) no wishing someone dead

2) no wishing anyone back from the dead

3) no wishs for anyone to fall in "love" with anyone

This should be good.

MStar 10th May 2005 05:34

1. 500 Wishes.
2. 4.7 Billion Dollars.
3. Most attractive.
4. Cure for cancer.
5-xxx. Cures for other diseases.
End world hunger.
Allow 3rd world countries to prosper.
Have a method for eternal youth.

If need be, more wishes.
Sell my wishes for a price.

Omnipotence.

First off you should state that you aren't allowed to have more than three wishes, otherwise your basically asking "if you could wish for anything and everything - what would you wish for".

My wishes would be

1) I choose when I die, i'm immortal until I choose otherwise.

2) Riches. Tons and tons of money. Love and money are two best things you can have. I wouldn't want to wish for love, but wishing for money I would have no problem with.

Sure it's great to earn things, but why not live with everything you want?

3) Open.

I wouldn't use my third wish. I would leave it open so one day I could make a truly wise wish.

Couple of things. First I wouldn't wish for 'peace on earth'. Conflict and competition makes the world go round. This would not be life if there were not problems.

Next I wouldn't wish to be anyone else, or to change myself. I like being me. Sure I might wish to be in good health, or free of illness.. but I would not want to be anyone else but me.

Also ressurecting people, or allowing everyone else to live forever is just stupid. People have to die in order for the world to progress. Outdated beliefs and senseless traditions fade over time as people pass. Racism wouldn't be disappering in the way it is if people from years and years ago remained alive and in power. And whole bunch of other stuff i'm sure you could imagine if the same people remained alive.

I know Obedo probably meant this as a 'what if' type of thing. But a question like this can actually spark relevant discussions.

MStar, if world hunger was ended, the planet would be over populated. Same goes for eternal youth. Would you want dangerous people to live forever?

You've been watching Aladdin, huh? I'll be back with my wishes in a bit.

when i was a kid a toy car could really make my day, nowdays when you see a parent with a child in a toy store, they rush towards the x-box , gamecube or simular and the kid starts to nag , I want one of these with this game and that game, blah.

I couldn't get past that wish myself. I briefly thought about money of course, but, I just kept thinking I'd want good health for my family and me, to live long lives together.

Having a kid can really change your priorities quick. Although I do have to admit to wishing that the hubby and I were completely out of debt. That would be awesome.

And like blueprint mentioned, I'd like to keep wish #3 open. I can't decided if I'd like to wish to be in Australia already or to get a job with a company that I'd actually like working for/at.

Spazz333 10th May 2005 08:32

2) The apocalypse

Hey money can make me happy :)

Sure it won't make me the happiest person in the world, but it'd definatly raise my overall happiness level alot.

As for the kids.. we now live in a technology driven society.

Business, entertainment, communication - technolog is a huge factor in everyday life, is it any surprise those kids want X-Box's and PS2's instead of toy cars?

This isn't directed to you, blueprint, just a general rant:

That reminds me of my youngest nephew, he always asks for the expensive toys. And it's his parents fault. They tried to teach him restraint too late. And the same with my cousin's kids. All three of them have pricey toys that they don't appreciate.

I'm trying to steer my daughter away from that. I've told relatives not to spend a ton of money on her for christmas/birthday. In fact, some of her favorite toys are the ones from Missy and her boys and Scor from christmas and I know they didn't spend much.

The only "high tech" toys she has right now is her Leap Pad, sharing the computer, my old cd walkman, and my brother's old stereo. She's quite happy playing with the low tech toys as I and her dad don't let her get materialistic. Plus, when her spoiled cousins get bored with their toys (usually a month or two after getting them), they hand it down to her. Even then, her dad and I go through those toys and make sure it's stuff we want her to have.

And never mention "Bratz Dolls" to Hugh.

First step to equality is to stop acting so different, that's what I always say :)

Wish One - I want a 99 Mazda Protege

Wish Two - I want all access to walmart, whatever I want, whenever I want it.

Wish Three - I wish for unlimited wishes.

The list kind of continues from there.

@ ShyShy

Not to judge your parenting skills, i'm sure you know much, much more than I do.. but that may be overkill.

It's not that these kids shouldn't have expensive things, it's that they should appreciate the fact that they do have these things. And that they have to earn said things, they aren't entitled to them.

If you buy them an X Box, they need to know that it costs money (or alot of money depending on one's financial situation), and it shouldn't be bought out of the blue - expensive gifts should be given on special occasions (eg. birthday's and Christmas).

Also, especially since technology keeps becoming more and more infused with our everyday lives, it's best that kids learn to use things like computers at a young age. Though it's wise to teach them not to depend on them for entertainment purposes.

Also, a couple things might be a little different in your case. One, it's a girl.. and girls aren't as interested in video games as much as the average male is. That's not to say there aren't harcore female gamers, they just aren't as common. Also, she is still very young. When I was a kid (a younger kid that is :p) I could spend hours upon hours playing with simple toys.

Even when I had my Nintendo and television as a kid, I spent just as much time with friends outside, and playing with plastic toys and toy cars etc.

What i'm trying to say is that you don't want to keep someone from becoming materialistic by not giving them expensive gifts. It's nice to splurge every once and awhile. You just have to draw the line between deserving and spoiled...

That has to be one of the strangest wishlists i've ever seen.

As for number three.. NO UNLIMITED WISHES  That kind of defeats the purpose of the question like I said earlier..

Cognition 10th May 2005 09:15

love > money

Love is greater than money (arguably) but I wouldn't wish for it. Money is nothing really. You can win lotto and suddenly have millions from nothing as a randomly selected person. Love has to be given to you, it has much more weight figuratively if not physically. Wishing for love would never make it "real."

Just a random comment.

Print 10th May 2005 09:21

Exactly. Wishing for love would never make it real.

But wishing for money definatley would :D

I was just ranting my head off, plus, it was close to 2am :igor: I remember falling alseep thinking that I wasn't clear enough with that post. My kid's only 5 years old and I don't see the need to spend a huge amount of money on toys she would end up breaking or something. She's five, she's still a bit clumsy, and of course she forgets to take care of her toys.

My parents would splurge on occassion, but, we had to take care of those toys. My main point (I really need to stop rambling), is that I can't stand the "spoiled" kids, who just demand without appreciating. And the parents that just give in.

And you're correct that technology has taken over toys for the most part. And yet, one of the rugrat's most played with toy is a bucket of legos I found at a garage sale for $1.50.

Guest232 10th May 2005 17:50

I would wish to be perfect. That way I wouldn't have to wish for money or health or whatever because I would get a perfect job easily and my health would automatically be good. Women would fall in love with me because I would be perfect for them.

Then I would have two wishes left for emergencies. I can live with that.

#2 To live a happy life (good health, sweet wife/kids etc)

#3 hmm I never thought of it like that, but keeping it open is a good idea indeed.

1) To always have the exact amount of money in my pocket for whatever I wanted to buy

2) To be able to live as long as I wanted, but then die when I chose

3) Hmm, Those are really the two main things I'd want. I guess, I'd leave this one open.

Actually, the Walmart wish, is already partially true. I wished for access to whatever I wanted whenever I wanted, and walmart is open 24/7 here. Damn it, I should have added "free" in there.

No unlimited wishes? I shall revise that statement with a finite number. "I wish for six hundred seventy two thousand wishes"

Raz 10th May 2005 21:12

Don't give up wishing for love so easily. Wish to meet the person you're most likely to have love with.

Yeah, I though age might have something to do with it as well.

Though what you say above makes more sense. I thought for sure their was no way someone who is a moderator in an internet forum could not want her daughter to be interested in technology.

Also it's good that you aren't one of those lazy parents who will just throw an X Box or TV at them and hope they don't have to worry about them..

Can't say the same thing about my parents :p

jerimiah40 10th May 2005 21:45
