if Microsoft says they know Linux ... then it must be true ...

dlichterman 22nd May 2005 18:32

ok, yeah 2 microsoft guys talking about linux, thats REALLY an open discussion. but yeah from what im listening to, it seems like a bunch of bullshit

gaekwad2 22nd May 2005 19:49

:blah: they talk about open standards and interoperability, and then they publish it as .doc and .wma

deeder7001 22nd May 2005 20:31

.doc and .wma aren't supported in linux?

MaTTFURY 22nd May 2005 20:58

nope lol I was waiting for someone to pick this up :)

Actualy there both supported by free Op'So' apps on Linux, but the real irony is the "This download is available to users of 'genuine microsoft Operating systems'".

Now I know for a fact that you just skip that, but it is interesting that they still try to promote that junk when there trying to preach there FUD to the Nix comunity.

windows - user friendly - Anyone can use it

Linux - not so user friendly - only you can use it

Yes, there are apps (eg. OOo and mplayer) but they still are closed proprietary formats, and doc in particular is famous for not even being fully interoperable between different versions of MS Office.

yeah sometimes openoffice can read .doc better than word!
