Downloads vs CD's. How do you acquire the BULK of your music?

How do you acquire the BULK of your music?

Obviously, the balance is tipping in favour of downloads, as the MP3's a more versatile animal. Right?

What's your prime source for new musik? And BE HONEST!

NJK 1st June 2005 13:51

1- You
2- buying cd's
3- downloading

Honest enough for you Cylob??:D

Cylob 1st June 2005 13:53

What are you implying?!?!? :D

nothing, just being honest about how i got the majority of music that is on this system.

Schmeet 1st June 2005 14:10

1) Downloading music - Only recently started downloading music.
2) Buying music

I only really download a few songs of each artist and if i want mroe songs i will buy the album.

Cylob 1st June 2005 14:14

That's what everyone says!

Schmeet 1st June 2005 14:33

Hahahahaha, i know. I was quite hesitant about posting it but that's the truth. :p

SSJ4 Gogitta 1st June 2005 14:44

Download, mainly, since most of the music I get are usually anime OSTs. The latest being ****** OST III, Bleach OST I, and Mai HiMI OST Collection (1.57 GB of flacs).

Sandman2012 1st June 2005 15:07

CDs. I have 250 CDs, all of which have been ripped to my hard drive as AAC encoded M4As equaling 3201 tracks. I have 39 MP3s which were downloaded legally from the artists' sites. My music collection takes up 18.3 GBs on my HD.

mysterious_w 1st June 2005 16:02

Downloaded, tracks, or full albums if they're or I feel the artist won't gain much (£5 isn't really gonna help Kurt Cobain)

Rocker 1st June 2005 16:15

i download cd's... and if i think their good enough.. i'll make a purchase...

shit cd's don't deserve my money...
and how are you supposed to know if their shit before purchase... you download first.

zootm 1st June 2005 17:22

CDs. Which I immediately rip and put away, never to be used again.

deeder7001 1st June 2005 17:38

i download at least one album every day or 2. if i like it i'll buy it. i'm kinda behind in the buying part at the moment(200+ albums).:p

xzxzzx 1st June 2005 18:33

CDs.

hgnis 1st June 2005 18:56

The stuff I listen to is not mainstream and not really available commercially in red neck land so downloading is my mode of choice.

Spazz333 1st June 2005 20:21

Most of my music is ripped by me, although I do have a quite a few downloaded albums I'm in the process of buying. I spent quite a bit of time yesterday deleteing downloaded music though.

mikm 1st June 2005 20:25

Out of the 30-50 albums on my computer, 1 is downloaded. The rest are legally owned CDs

I'm sure you can find what you want at an online CD store. They don't deliver mail where you are? ;)

 Amazon rocks. Apparently my taste in music is so bad I get most of my stuff for $.50 + shipping.

jerimiah40 1st June 2005 21:15

Well, I have an extremely impressive CD collection for my age, 126 CD's at last count. However, I also download a fair amount of music as well, but not full albums. Only when I like individual songs off of albums.

Warrior of the Light 1st June 2005 21:29

if it's available (and worth my money) I buy it.

A lot of the stuff I listen to isn't available anymore (the old Evanescence stuff for example) or is even uncopyrighted.

no harm in downloading those songs

MidnightViper88 1st June 2005 21:38

I buy, but I usually download a song or two for sample before I deside to buy...

I'd rather buy CDs over downloading them, just because of the quality...

Otherwise, when I don't wanna download anything, or don't have the spare money to buy it, I'll burn a copy of it off someone else... :D

Bilbo Baggins 1st June 2005 21:50

Downloads, eaasily, but only because I am yet to find a record store in the UK that stocks even a decent amount of the music I like. Can anyone tell me where I can find a shop that sells Maximum the Hormone?

ScorLibran 2nd June 2005 01:20

I buy CDs for two reasons. (1) My preferred encoding format is FLAC, and transcoding from MP3 to FLAC is pointless. (2) I like having something to touch and look at and read and line up on the shelf. Especially the bands I have rather large collections of (Pink Floyd: 43 albums, Rush: 23 albums, Led Zeppelin: 11 albums, among others).

Just 'cause something isn't selling so it's marked down doesn't mean it's "bad."

Why is their old stuff not available? I't unusual for a current band to let stuff go "out of print."

43 floyd albums. you are one lucky guy

General Geoff 2nd June 2005 04:19

I didn't know there were 43 different Pink Floyd albums. I have essentially all their separate albums and it totals to 13...

Please do share with us what these 43 albums are. :)

PulseDriver 2nd June 2005 06:13

I listen mostly to NRK mPetre... which also have a stream by internet.

http://radio.hiof.no:8000/nrk-mpetre-128

I don't download songs I don't have on CD or LP. Haven't bought any music lately being the reason for listening to the radio :)

Same for me about Rush.. 23 albums? I know they've been around since the 70's, but 23 albums.. whoa.

MaTTFURY 2nd June 2005 09:22

the music stores i've visited in australia don't seem to carry much for techno, that's why i download it... (otherwise I'd buy it)

Have a chat with ScorLibran, he's the authority on Floyd.

Twilightseer 2nd June 2005 10:02

Since I don't have an Internet connection at home, I just wait for guys here at work to share stuff on the corporate LAN :D
Otherwise, I get stuff from friends online (how in the world can I contact Cylob :D) or from an infamous russian online service ;)

I only buy CDs from artists I've liked and supported for years. If spaceplay is the authority on Pink Floyd, I'm the one on Morrissey and PSB, trust me :D

Cylob 2nd June 2005 10:20

You're being modest 'seer, you're the expert on stacks of bands. :D

Here are the one's I have (in order of release or recording date), though there are several more ROIO's out there. ;)

And yes, I keep the two discs in Ummagumma seperate, as many would agree that they are quite disparate (when I'm in the mood for one I'm not generally in the mood for the other).

...again, these are just the ones in my collection. There are quite a few more, mostly bootlegs/demos/rare recordings, which I haven't started collecting yet for Rush.

zootm 3rd June 2005 03:12

Hahaha, I have all of those Rush albums except the compilations, and Rush in Rio. And I have at least one you don't (or don't list). :D

Love that band :)

Cylob 3rd June 2005 13:00

Me too.

It's a shame they never took b-sides seriously. :( I know they weren't a prolific singles band, but on those few singles a decent extra track wouldn't have gone amiss.

zootm 3rd June 2005 13:39

I dunno, I think it's quite good that all the material they saw fit to release seriously was on the albums, I'm not a big fan of collecting "every release", and spending vast amounts of money to get every track. *shrug*

Quoted to be debunked......

Listening booth in stores?
Radio?
TV?
AOL media streams?
Audio streams from bands websites?
Two dozen other methods I'm too lazy to list :D

zootm 3rd June 2005 15:03

Mate's houses/recommendations, live gigs work for me :)
