WinFS allowing for better ML?

Will it be possible to redo the ML to read and write metadata and do querries, etc from WinFS?

I'm not sure what you mean exactly, but from what I can see, WinFS may not be ready/publically released for a few years yet, heh.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WinFS

"More recently, Microsoft announced that WinFS would form part of Windows Longhorn, but in August 2004, it was announced that in order to release Longhorn in 2006, it would contain WinFS in beta form at best, with a full version being released later as an add-on or update. Subsequent statements by Microsoft imply that WinFS will not be released until 2008 at the earliest."

"UPDATE: In spite of what may be stated in this content, WinFS is not a feature that will come with the Longhorn Operating System. However, WinFS will be available on the Windows platform at some future date, which is why this content continues to be provided for your information."

So, who knows how more advanced Winamp's ML might've become by then...?

Well it was just an idea I got. I still don't fully understand what WinFS is, but it seems like it's a relational database, which I would assume would be able to take plugins and index many media filetypes. Ie, the filesystem itself would extract id3, ape, etc tags and compile a massive database, essentially handle the backend. The ml would be a gui for this.

/keyboards fucked up, disconnecting itself. otherwise i'd explain further

I do hope something of this nature is implented once WinFS is actually released, to me this just makes sense

@mistergecko .. plugins are add-ons that are IN a prgrams directory .. snap-ins are external to any program directory but work the same as a plugin and snap-ins are what WinFS will use .. just like mmc does now
