MSN 7 is actually pretty smart in a lot of ways - for example, when you send a file, it'll transfer it locally if the recipient is on the same intranet as you. And if you patch it and install Messenger Plus!, it even becomes a decent client. I have an arbitrary rule, too, one that has no foundation in logic yet has served me well: "Anyone that doesn't use MSN isn't worth talking to." Simple as that. |

I used to use MSN Plus! but I don't anymore because (1) it practically has to be loaded with Windows...the alternative is to manually load it just before starting MSN Messenger then manually kill its process after closing MSN Messenger, and (2) the value it provides isn't worth it for me to either go to the trouble of using it or give it the (albeit minor) additional memory and processing overhead it requires. The only features of MSN Plus! I ever really used and appreciated were custom names, log encryption and extended message lengths. I can do without those if it means making my instant messaging experience a little easier.

The most recent version of MSN Plus! has some new loading code, but I have no idea if it's any different in that regaurd, ScorLibran.
Personally, I have MSN running all the time, so it's not much of a bother to have MSN Plus! running all the time as well. It is only about 30 cents worth of memory that it's using anyway, but I get your point. I like a lot of the things in MSN Plus, in particular, the ability to force other contact's messages to display in your font (I use a light text on dark background windowing scheme) is a lifesaver. Same with custom contact names. On the downside, patching MSN is almost a requirement with MSN 7, otherwise it's so obnoxious that it's almost painful to use. Even MSG Plus! doesn't get rid of ads anymore... |
