"There was an unknown error, please submit again."

ok, this is my first time submiting a skin. i looked throgh the faqs and the other tips and tricks and searched the forum for an answer, but i have found nothing. someone please help!!!!

when i try to submit my skin it tells me "There was an unknown error, please submit again." no matter what i do. i made sure that all the file types and image sizes were correct for the thumbnail and the large image. i also tried only selecting one catagory, as to not select two contrasting choices.

if anyone can help me, please do.

and thanks!!

also

o and the way i am making the .wsz file is to take the folder of the bitmaps and zip it, then rename it to be a .wsz file.

let me know if that is the way u r supposed to do it, that might be the problem.

thanks again

brendan

Doggy Dog 8th June 2005 09:58

Don't zip the folder. Zip everything that's IN the folder (together of course), and rename it to wsz.

jirayia 9th June 2005 02:01

ok, i got it to submit, but i just got an email saying the skin was incomplete. help is needed again please!!!!

thanks

Did you skin the Media Library ?

Also, post a picture of the skin.

Wildrose-Wally 9th June 2005 11:37

The sliders from your equalizer are missing.

jirayia 9th June 2005 12:17

wait wait wait, i have to have an equalizer that has buttons? i thought that was optional. i have downloaded skins before from winamp that have no button eq's.

and what did u want (doggy dog)? just a picture or the .wsz file.

thanks

brendan

Mr Jones 9th June 2005 12:27

Yes, you have to have an equaliser, there are some old old skins on the site that don't feature them, but we changed the submission requirements a couple of years ago and haven't accepted any since then

If you are unsure about the submission process, please read the FAQ that is linked out of everyones submission screen.

Dark Ninja 9th June 2005 14:27

i did`nt have any of this trouble on my first skin
submitting failures and what not,

READ THE DAMN FAQ,

it`s gettin ridiculous now...

jirayia 17th June 2005 15:19

i have read the faqs like 6 times by now and 4 times before i posted a topic on the forum, and it was not specific enough to answer all my questions that is why i posted a topic.

StillWater 18th June 2005 02:39

Were your screenshots PNGs? If so, make them JPGs or GIFs and try again. Unfortunately, it never seems to work with PNGs.

jirayia 19th June 2005 04:53

nah they were .jpg.

i just resubmitted it with a complete equalizer, so im hopeing it will be accepted.

thanks
brendan

ok ok ok
i have successfully submitted my skin, but now i dont know what is going on. i go to my profile and it lists my skin under the published heading (at the bottom of the page). but the skin is not on the winamp skin site (i cant find it when i search for skins or find it to download it). can some one ease my nerves? i dont know if it is still in the submission process or what.

thanks,
brendan

Did you look under the "Generated" category? That's where it belongs.

jirayia 22nd June 2005 12:12

what do u mean that is where it belongs? it is supposed to be in the animated category. and why dosent it come up when you search for its name, why do i have to go to the generated tab to find it?

thanks
brendan

Mr Jones 22nd June 2005 12:58

Might have something to do with the fact that it's a generated skin made by a skin generating program.

Regardless of what category you think it should be in, all generated skins are moved into the generated category by the reviewers when publishing.

jirayia 22nd June 2005 23:49

if i fix the buttons which were generated, and edit it(resubmit it), will that get in the correct category. or will i have to start all over?

thanks,
brendan

Wildrose-Wally 23rd June 2005 02:53

It is very hard to turn a Generated skin into a regular one, it is a lot more than just switching buttons.
Generated skins have their own distinctive look you can't really get rid of without doing probably as much work as making a skin from scratch.
If you want to make a real skin, the people in this forum will be glad to help you out.

jirayia 23rd June 2005 14:56

yeah at this point i dont want to start over with the skin i just finished. i was just wondering if there were any quick fixes since i did alot of the work by hand anyway. (everything except the main and equalizer and some of the playlist windows)

ok thanks to all of you who have helped me through my first skin submission. i have learned my lessons and gained new and valuable experience and tips.

thanks,
brendan

Your interpretation of "I did a lot of the work by hand anyway" is very different to our interpretation of it.

For example, my most recent skin took me about 10 months to complete, working on it on and off. All up, if I count all the tweaking, animating, debugging, optimising, as well as the actual creation time, it probably took me well over 50 hours. That's a fairly typical experience for most skinners (except the 10 months bit - we usually get our act together much quicker than that). I can genuinely say that "I did a lot of the work by hand". Whereas you, my friend, seem to be underestimating the word "work", and the phrases "a lot" and "by hand". And as for your use of the phrase "quick fix", it leads me to believe that you have chosen the wrong hobby to explore. :D There is nothing "quick" about making a skin. Actually, there is nothing "quick" about most things in life that are worth doing - and definitely not skins, anyway.

jirayia 25th June 2005 18:05

well yeah i spent at least 48 hrs (almost straight) making the avs, media liberary, video and equalizer from scratch. it took me along time to learn how winamp reads each of the .bmp files so i was very disippionted to learn that i has just thrown into the generated category the "punishment catagory". pretty much all i used the program for was making the base components (so the background looked the way i wanted), because i was a noob and lazy at first. but when i got into it after see how cool it looked i started doing stuff to the existing skin (adding and editing).

i hope that explains my side of the story for u, i admit to being lazy in the beginning and "cheating", but i am doing 2-3 skins right now all by scratch. so if those end up in the generated category, i will be upset.

once again thank you for all you guys'/gals' help. i feel like i am really going to do some great skinning in the future.

thanks
brendan

I have the same problem. I've checked everything and everything is correct. I keep submitting and it keeps saying the same thing. It's either .jpg or .wsz. I've submitted a skin about 6 months ago and it got accepted, but this skin won't even get submitted.

Dark Ninja 30th November 2005 19:48

sometimes i get problems with submitting,
unfortunately it happens to all of us
if it does`nt submit try changing the preveiw images from jpeg to gif and vice versa
