bit torrent

What is the best bit torrent program to use that is the most reliable. I searched for this and didn't find any topics on it. I thought it was posted one other time but couldn't find it......Thanks

most reliable? what do you mean by that?

mysterious_w 13th September 2005 15:08

I have used azureus and found it to be very resource hogging, and not very fast at downloading, even though it had a lot of cool features.

So now I use bittornado, which is more basic but works fine, no problems with it.

ScorLibran 13th September 2005 15:14

BitTornado here also.

Tried several, but I'm no bittorrent expert. BT has served my needs well, though.

LuigiHann 13th September 2005 15:34

I use one called ABC. It was the first one I got and it works, so I haven't tried any others.

billyvnilly 13th September 2005 15:41

azureus can be pretty big resource hog with java, I've stuck with azureus because i know how to setup the ipblocklist and im too lazy to see if abc or bittornado can do the same.

SSJ4 Gogitta 13th September 2005 15:45

I use Azureus as well.

I used one called torrentopia for a bit and then switched to ABC. I like it pretty well.

dlichterman 13th September 2005 19:51

stuck with azures, even though its a resource hog, it works fine for me and I can max out my cable connection and lag my bro out of games :)

deeder7001 13th September 2005 21:08

i use ABC. it doesn't crash like bittornado did for a while(still don't know why that was).

RIAA?
hmm...

rockouthippie 13th September 2005 21:51

I usually use Azureus. It's a bit of a resource hog, but it seems to be relatively malware free.

BitLord has the best feature set I've seen, but too bad, it's spamware 9.0. Not recommended.

zootm 13th September 2005 22:02

Azureus isn't probably as much of a resource hog as it seems, although older versions had some bugs that would occasionally use loads of CPU time. But in general operation it's pretty efficient.

People who point at the (reported) memory usage probably don't understand how Java works.

Azureus because it's great for managing several torrents at a time. BitTornado is good if you only have one or two torrents going at a time, but there is definitiely a functionality tradeoff between the two. Azureus is simply much more intelligent when it comes to seeding torrents. Additionally, if a torrent consists of multiple files (50+ rar files) you can choose to download only the ones you want and skip the rest.

Azureus is also cross-platform so it works on my windows box and linux box and it'll probably run on macs as well.

Azureus is the #1 download on Sourceforge.

...off of the subject, it's brilliant that the top 10 downloads on Sourceforge are:

1 Azureus - BitTorrent Client
2 eMule
3 Shareaza
4 BitTorrent
5 NASA World Wind
6 DC++
7 Crafty Syntax Live Help
8 GTK+ and The GIMP installers for Windows
9 Gaim
10 VirtualDub

... a good chunk of which are file shareing programs, or CD/DVD ripping apps!
