How to sort songs by Windows directories and filenames?

Hi all,

Is there any way to configure WinAmp so that it will sort songs according to the names of the Windows directories and filenames? For example, ".../My Music/Artist/Album/## - Title"? When WinAmp read my files using its default method, it came up with odd formulations, such as:

"My Music/Ella Fitzgerald/Compact Jazz/06 - A-Tisket, A-Tasket" becomes the song "Tisket, A-Tasket" by artist "A" (track number 6)

"My Music/Grateful Dead/690227/gd69-02-27d1t01" becomes the song "27d1t01" by artist "gd69" (no track number, but then there isn't one in the file name, so that's OK)

How can I tell WinAmp that the first directory is the Artist, the second the Album, and the numbers (but only numbers) before the hyphen are the track number, and that the artist name does not appear in the file name at all?

In case this sounds strange, this is easily done in Media Jukebox 8, the app from which I am trying to transition (in order to play FLAC files). Thanks!

Thanks!

are the files tagged or not? winamp can handle files alot easier if they are. What is happening is that when winamp guesses what the album or title, etc is, its looking for hyphens (common separators for tags in the filename) To turn off guessing, goto pref > media library > watch folders > configure > turn off guessing.

IF you just want winamp to display the full path (c:\path\to\file\song.mp3) goto pref > titles > atf string text box and use:

%filename%

if you just want to show song.mp3, use:
$filepart(%filename%)

(there are mass taggers out there, that will add the tags their respective tags, based upon the filename structure... mp3tag, the godfather, id3tagit)

How to display full path in media library?

I tried using the method for using the %filename% for titles and found that it works for the playlist window but not for the media library. I also turned off guessing, but I'm still not getting the full path displayed in the media library. I want to display the full path in the media library so I can sort by it (I have my media sorted in folders, and I usually load a whole folder into the playlist). How can this be done?
