AAC / AAC+ and Digital Rights Managment (DRM)
 

Hey Everyone,

I want to distribute some music that I write, but I want to somewhat protect it by limiting its use. I've been reading a bit about AAC and Digital Rights Managment, but I'm wondering how I go about encoding in AAC/AAC+ and implementing DRM criteria for it.

SHOUTcast has no DRM built in, it's just raw AACPlus goodness.

Slapping some drm on your music isn't going to protect it, it's just gonna piss off and annoy potential listeners.

agreed. but the answer is that shoutcast nor winamp, nor associated nullsoft tools to create these files include any support for DRM.

apple apply DRM to aac files for the itms, but its proprietary , closed source, licensing it is impossible, and device/software support is limited to ipods, itunes, and that crap phone that only holds 100 tracks max that nobody is buying.

Germ's point is understood, but I'm still interested in learning more about DRM (ie, "why would you want to do that?" issues aside). Are there any codec's I can find or buy that I can use to add DRM specification to my files.

about the only other one is wma. no idea how to make drm'd versions of them though. you'd have to take a look around microsoft.com
