Windows XP SP3 or direct pass to Windows Vista?

What do you think guys?

Is ol' Billy going to release another Service pack to XP, or is going to published Vista?

:tinfoil:

zootm 21st November 2005 23:21

Both.

SP3 isn't going to be on the scale of SP2 though, mainly just an update package, though.

skryingbreath 21st November 2005 23:22

service pack.
They are desperate to keep their old customers. Releasing a new OS fill freak too many people out.
"ZOMFG, mi \/\/1nd0z3 is t3h 1t4n$p4r3nt? wtf M$?"

They will sneak little features of vista into the next service pack so that people dont have a heart attack when buying a new machine with Vista on it :)

tuckerm 21st November 2005 23:35

i shure hope i'd be able to upgrade to vista...as soon as my 8 bit color problem is fixed :(

Agree... somewhere I read features like AntiSpyware and Antivirus still in debate...

For some people, that would great, instead of downloading or paying for one.

Remeber, Windows 2000 SP3 and SP4 came out AFTER XP was released. Vista doesn't mean the end of XP service packs.

skryingbreath 22nd November 2005 01:33

Hell, they still support 98. They need to ditch old technology and focus on the future. If vista is released and is better and more affordable than XP, then there should no longer be a product called Windows XP.
Stop living in the past man! :)

Omega X 22nd November 2005 02:13

Well, some people STILL use 98. And are STILL happy with it.

There are TONS of people who won't go to Vista when its said and done. You might like the burning edge but some people are happy with tools that they have.

m0e 22nd November 2005 02:49

From what I understand only one of my computers has the hardware necessary to run Vista well, and most likely it won’t run it at a level I will be happy with. I would like to try Vista to see what it could do but I’m not jumping on the bandwagon yet.

zootm 22nd November 2005 10:48

Vista's largest market, as with most versions of Windows, will be new PCs that it's pre-installed on I expect. Especially at first.

the hell they do.
i cant get any help from them unless paying for it. No nothing!

they dont support anything and there knowledge base is outdated...there has been NO security releases for a hell of a long time...im happy with 98 if software companys still supported it and xp would do some work with it...i <3 98se...my first operating system.

Can someone clear my doubts: What is the difference between Vita and Longhorn. As i see it: Vista is another version of Windows and Longhorn is a totally different operating system. Am i right?

zootm 22nd November 2005 13:17

Vista is the product name of the next version of Windows. Longhorn is Vista's code name that was used during development. "Longhorn Server" is the codename (and only name) of the next version of Windows Server.

Too-DAMN-Much 22nd November 2005 13:18

i believe : they're the same thing, "longhorn" was it's codename, and "vista" will be it's release name

Wolfgang 22nd November 2005 13:19

Longhorn is the codename for the project and I think they were originally going to call the OS Longhorn too, but the actual OS will now be called Vista. They're the same thing.

rohan_pwln 22nd November 2005 13:24

Sorry, for double posting. Well, thanks for that. I was really getting confused. When will mocrosoft have it on the stores??

@TOO-Damn-much: Well, i posted my reply, the page said that i could post only once in 60s(I had posted in some other section). In the meantime you made a reply. Again i tried and this time i could post it. So, i accidently double posted it. Sorry.

Too-DAMN-Much 22nd November 2005 13:42

Nah, it's the forum server(s). Some sync problem. This happens occasionally.

rohan_pwln 22nd November 2005 15:26

I don't really consider SP's from ms to be important. I just get the latest version of autopatcher xp from a tech magazine CD and install it. Beleive it or not, it works amazingly. Around 100+ patches every edition, with a installer like interface and millions of options to choose from, this piece of software really works wonders.

Same here, dont care whether MS makes SP3 or they don't. I'll still use autopatcher.

BTW, even thought MS hjaas discontinued support for Win98, an unofficial service pack for win98 has been released.

Joel 22nd November 2005 17:45

I think my hardware will support Vistas, but I think I'll stick with XP and their future SPs, I can always have the Visual style for it... ;)

I just hope that WMP10+ and IE7+ won't be spamming my WindowsUpdate

Wolfgang 22nd November 2005 20:16

Yeah, I'm quite happy with Windows XP. It does what I need it to do and is stable enough, it only crashes once in a blue moon, and usually it's my fault for pissing about with system files or the registry.

beanboy89 22nd November 2005 20:29

I probably won't upgrade to Vista on this computer, although it is (most likely) capable of running it. I'll keep XP. But on my next computer, which I hope to build within the next few months, I may start off with XP, but then dual-boot with Vista.

Too-DAMN-Much 22nd November 2005 20:38

if this computer can run it, and i can afford it, i will most definetly upgrade to vista when it's available, i could never see going back to 95/98SE now that i've had a taste of XP...
truthfully the bullshit is outweighed by the niceities (spell check?) at least for me.

CaboWaboAddict 22nd November 2005 20:51

I will upgrade a PC as soon as I get the DVD in my MSDN kit.

If I ever build another computer it will be a dual boot with Windows and Mac ;)

ertmann|CPH 22nd November 2005 23:11

The only wish i have for Longhorn/Vista is that it will send hordes of screaming customers right to the doorstep of the Linux distro's. More people, more customers = more development :D
