Which forum hosting softwae?

I am just curious which forum hosting software you all prefer? Vbulletin, phpbb? I personally like vbulletin and it seems like they are dominating the market what do you guys think?

punBB ( http://www.punbb.org ) is a really nice lightweight forum.

Also, keep in mind, vBulletin isn't free.

MyBB is quite nice.

Be warned that phpBB is highly insecure. Gentoo doesn't even release security advisories on phpBB anymore, last time I checked.

Invision Power Board :)

phpbb has been alright, except for one time about a year ago that it got badly hacked. The security hole was a simple problem. I haven't had any problems since.

Except for the major blunder a year ago, most of the hacks for phpbb have been exploits on php itself. If you remember at about that time php itself was having significant problems.

Mainly that had to do with php's global variables and programmer laziness.

If you have some horror stories about current phpbb, I'm all ears...

I have been using InvisionFree for two years now. It's a free board hosting service and they use an IPB-based forum system.

The very latest phpBB (and php) was hacked on my server a while (three months?) ago. I don't know how it was done, and didn't really care to find out — the script kiddie didn't get into any files, but was able to change values in the database to include some scripts and do some annoying shit like redirects.

At this point, Gentoo doesn't even support phpBB anymore, because of constant security flaws.
