Huge Memory usage for playlist window
I run winamp 5.11 and have a large collection in the playlist (~13,000).
When the playlist window is open. winamp uses about 55MB of memory. I close the playlist, and the memory usage stays the same. Until I minimize it to the tray, and restore it. Then we are back at ~3 Megabytes. Why does it not release the memory it was using in a more timly manner? Now how do we fix that? Ive also noticed it has used this much memory when in the tray after It been running about 2hours. |

Upgraded to the latest, clean install.
Open up winamp with an empty playlist, bam, 13MB to have it doing nothing. Minimize to tray, and bring it back, 2MB again. Oh, and since 5.11 and above it takes around ~15minutes longer to add all my stuff to a playlist recursivly. (I am getting all the info from the mp3s, as I always have. Its just slower) |
When you minimize an application, Windows automatically reduces the application's "working set" (the amount of virtual memory pages that are cached in real RAM). It's not actually freeing any memory.
As for memory usage, the Windows Task Manager is lying to you. The "mem usage" column is actually the working set. The amount of actual memory usage is scuttled away in a column called "VM Size". The reason that VM Size is sometimes smaller than the working set is because the "working set" also includes memory required to hold the code (EXE and DLLs themselves) in memory. For more information, see this page. |
I've got the same problem, in fact the memory usage grow constantly (I think this could be the scrolling titles in the main window and in the playlist window)
e.g. : My winamp is running since ~10 minutes, main window and playlist minimized Memory used : 17384Ko (growing from 12Ko each second; sorry for Ko, I'm french) VM Size : 38100Ko (growing from 12Ko too) The "memory used" take a value of ~8-10Mo when touching to the main window (minimizing). The VM size stop growing up when maximizing the playlist window, but the "memory used" still increase (but slower). When the playlist window is re-minimized it still grow (but sometimes the "memory used" go over 8Mo) When hidding winamp to the system tray the "memory used" go to 4Mo but VM size stop at the value during the hidding (when i'm testing it during my write the value is 41408Ko so it increased about 3Mo...) During playing an audio file and hidden in the system tray the "memory used" increase, but not constantly, the VM size don't move. Unfortunatly the VM size never decrease...so after more than 10hours of use the VM size is huge (more than 300Mo) I hope my small test could help you correcting this "bug" (if this is a bug), and sorry for my poor english, as I said I'm French and as some can think we are not perfect (not all ;)) |
up !!!
(like the memory used by my winamp...) |
All I have found on this problem is that Im going back to winamp 2.81 when winamp was useful, and not a media player clone. (will all the bloatware)
|
winamp 5.12 works wonderfully, and no reason to go back to 2.81 if you know how to install wisely...there is only bloat if you install it.
|
Lol, You have no idea..
Let me see, hmm, install.. next, uncheck almsot everything. Dont install stupid icons.. etc. Now. Did I install that right? Billy? |
