check to see if the winamp.ini file or even the entire winamp directory has become read only. to do this, right click on the file(the winamp.ini file stores preferences and is located in the winamp directory, usually C:\Program Files\Winamp) and look for a box that says read only, and uncheck it if it is checked,

oops! /Program Files/Winamp hahaha! :blah: that won't work too well on windows. fixed

Please turn your firewall back on. The firewall has nothing to do with the problem at hand, and your system is vulnerable to attack without it.

Please read this first!!!
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....d=161361#specs

Confirm whther or not you've installed any extra 3rd-party plugins.
If settings aren't being saved when closing Winamp, and the files in your Winamp dir are not Read-Only, then it is usually some 3rd-party plugin to blame which causes Winamp to silently crash on exit (settings are only saved if Winamp is exited properly).

For now, as a temporary solution, you can manually edit winamp.ini

Make sure Winamp is closed.
Open C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.ini in Notepad
Locate and edit the following lines accordingly:

[Winamp]
skin=Winamp Modern

[WinampReg]
NeedReg=0

Save and close winamp.ini
Reopen Winamp.

If the problem persists, please provide all the required information as requested in my link (System specs, Windows OS, HijackThis log, Plugin list, etc).

Hi thanks for your help so far..
there is no third party plug ins installed.
ive attached the hijack this and system spec for you to browse over..
Do you think the cause of my problem is that everytime i open winamp i have to register?
I'm running the latest edition of winamp the free full version.
I do hope ive provided enough information for you

slipned 22nd December 2005 11:37

sorry here is the system spec list too

DJ Egg 22nd December 2005 12:06

Window Washer is the cause of your problem.
You need to configure it to stop it from deleting winamp.ini

slipned 22nd December 2005 12:24

Yup Just tried that and the problem is fixed..
DJ Egg thank you so much for your kind help
