That was a bit embarassing

Tonight, we had the NHS Induction Ceremony for inducted members of NHS (Obviously)...We were told to get there by 6:45 (Since it starts at 7), but I was late there; Since my family wanted to come, and wanted to have dinner before we left, my plans for leaving early were pushed back, and I got there at 7...They hadn't started on the dot, but I didn't have enough time to find out what the hell I was supposed to do...

So I get there, just in time, although not knowing where to sit...They get to the part where our names would be called by row, but I had to play the stupid sheep, because I sat one row where the first row of inductees sat (I was the only student in the row where I sat, and I picked that seat out of random; No one could tell me where I was supposed to sit either)...I just followed the row behind me...Only thing was that everyone sat in alphabetical order (Since that's how we'd be called up)...I'm in the back of that row, when by name I'm closer to the front, so when they called my name, I had to walk around to get to the stage (They had already advanced 2-3 names by the time I got up there)...When I get up there, there was slight hesitation in giving me my NHS diploma, since I was messed up out of order, and I stood there for about 5 seconds on stage while they found mine, feeling something more of an idiot already...

...and then when all the students stood up to recite the NHS pledge, I was the only one standing in the row I was at, with everyone else behind me...

At least I didn't trip on my way back to my seat like one other guy...At least...

It's for that very reason that I didn't attend my high school graduation. I picked up my diploma the day after. No fuss, no muss.

edit; now that I think about it, I didn't attend my college graduation either.

They forgot about me at my NHS induction ceremony :/

eheiney 27th January 2006 01:39

I had a smiliar experience: my last name was pronounced wrong, leaving my mother to stand up and scream it out properly.

I would have liked not to have attended my graduation, but it was my parents' wish. And since they had helped me out so much through my high school career, I felt it was owed to them.

edit: I was going to ask what NHS was, but then I realized how stupid that would make me look. :p

National Honor Society I believe.

that would be my guess, chev

High school diploma?. I'd already been going to college for 9 months when I got mine.... had em mail it. Yep NHS, National Honors Society, and if you take the test and do well they make you a National Merit Scholar... another worthless piece of paper I acquired.

I got a miniature copy of my diploma laminated just like my driver's license. :) Of course, I got the real diploma as well, but it's not as cool. :P I was actually pleased that my graduation went without a hitch, even with over 700 people in my graduating class. :igor:

When I was inducted into NHS, my candle kept going out. I don't know if I just got the gimpy one or what, but no matter how many times we relit it... it would burn out again.

I was salutatorian of my graduating class and of course, graduation went even worse. Because I was salutatorian, when I went up to get my diploma I was also handed my scholarship and a bunch of other awards. Of course I had to drop half of what I was carrying all over the stage as I was heading off!

My graduation would been good if every time a black kid got a diploma his 25 fucking relatives woulda kept their fucking mouth shut. You would thought the kids were the first in the family to get a fucking diploma.

Oh! I'm racist! No, every fucking time a black kid got his name called they had to stop the show to wait for a bunch of fat ass bitches and loud men to stop hollering and blasting their fucking air horns. Apparently "please hold your applause until the end" doesn't translate well into ignorant asshole-ese.

Yeah, NHS is National Honors Society, but, no, entry is not regulated by a test. At my high school, at least, juniors can apply if they have a high GPA (grade point average - 3.5 or higher, I think) and participate in at least three extracurriculars. National Merit Scholarships are awarded to those who score insanely well on the PSAT, something like the top half of the top one percent of scores, and have nothing to do with NHS.

I'm surprised your induction ceremony was so early. The application process for current juniors at my high school hasn't even started yet and the induction is usually held like May-ish. Seniors can apply shortly after the school year starts, but they don't get the fancy induction ceremony.
