corrupted files

This problem only occured after installing 5.2 after which my main.dat and recent.dat files were both corrupted. XP has told me to run the chkdsk utility but thats doing nothing and since the files are corrupted and unreadable I can't seem to delete them. So I can't run Winamp without this error message popping up ALL the time while its running. I mean yeah the songs will still play but can you imagine how annoying it is to have to move the error windows after each song changes? Anyways, any kind of help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

-Zyth

Hi,

"I can't seem to delete them"

Could you be a bit more specific? Did you try rebooting, and then deleting the files? Does it say anything when you try? Did you close Winamp before trying?

Sorry about that, I tried rebooting and deleting them and it still doesn't work. I closed Winamp of course and what it says when I try is, "Cannot delete main: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

You could try installing Winamp to a different directory, and just leave the existing files where they are. A bit of an ugly workaround though... Anyone else ideas?

From the RUN LINE of the START MENU, do a CHKDSK /F on your drive where the files are created. On C would be:

CHKDSK /F C:

You will need to reboot for this to run. Once that is done - without launching winamp, reboot to SAFE MODE and try to delete the files.
