Error - 0x7c80979d

Hi guys

Whenever I run and play a song in Winamp I get this error:

'The instruction at "0x7c80979d" referenced memory at 0x01270024". The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate program"

And winamp shuts down!

Ive reinstalled both winamp and all my codecs, and I still get the problem!

Any ideas?
Thanks Chris

If other programs are having a similar issue, then it's likely a memory-related issue. If not, post system specs (CPU, RAM, OS, etc.), a list of all third party plug-ins installed, your Winamp version, and possibly a HijackThis log.

Nope, apart from winamp, my pc runs flawlessly. Winamp used to have no problems either, but 3 days ago I rebooted my PC and since then I cant get it to play a song for more than 3 seconds!

My PC:
P4 3.4
1.5GB RAM
1.2TB HD
SB Audigy2
WinXP PRO SP2

The problem was experienced on both Winamp 5.2 and 5.21.
Only third part plug-in installed is the Winamp Ipod support.

I will post a hijackthis log soon.

Thanks

As far as I know, 1.2 terabyte hard drives don't exist yet. The highest I've seen is 500 gigabytes (from Newegg).

Though with low certainty, the Ipod support could be it. I don't have an Ipod, so I don't know. However, I think the Ipod support is one of the plugins that Winamp 5.2 comes with by default so I don't think it's a third party plug-in. It's new so it may need testing. Try a clean install once and uncheck the portable player support checkbox and, if neccessary, the Sonic ripping and burning support. Outside this, short of any other clues, I don't have anything else to offer.

so does 1.5GB ram exist? no, its 2x512 + 2x256

same applies to my 1.2TB HD's: 1x400, 1x320, 1x200, 2x120

thank you for the suggestions, i will try these and report back
