I don't think I got the celebration right last night so I've begin a redo today.

That's better.

webthing's post reminded me if this joke I just got that would've seem fitting on St. Patty's day... :D

Two men were sitting next to each other at a bar. After a while, one guy looks at the other and says, "I can't help but think, from listening to you, that you're from Ireland."
The other guys responds proudly, "Yes, that I am."
The first guy says, "So am I. And where about from Ireland might you be?"
The other guy answers, "I'm from Dublin, I am."
The first guy responds, "Sure and begora, and so am I. And what street did you live on in Dublin?"
The other guys says, " A lovely little area it was, I lived on McCleary Street in the old central part of town."
The first guy says, "Faith and it's a small world, so did I! And to what school would you have been going?"
The other guy answers, "Well now, I went to St. Mary's of course."
The first guy gets really excited and says, "And so did I. Tell me, what year did you graduate?"
The other guy answers, "Well now, let's see, I graduated in 1964."
The first guy exclaims, "The Good Lord must be smiling down upon us! I can hardly believe our good luck at winding up in the same bar tonight. Can you believe it, I graduated from St. Mary's in 1964 too."
About this time a woman walks in to the bar, sits down and orders a drink.
The bartender walks over to her shaking his head and muttering, "It's going to be a long night tonight."
The woman asks, "Why do you say that?"
The bartender replies, "The Murphy twins are drunk again."

If you really knew about St. Pat's day, you probably wouldn't be drinking quite so much. In Ireland, yes, people in Ireland love Guinness, Harp, Smithwicks, Beamish, Murphey's, Power's, Red Breast, Jameson's, Bushmill's and all the other fun alcohols... BUT NOT ON ST. PAT'S DAY!

Irish people don't get drunk on St. Pat's day, they go to Mass (Catholic church service). They eat good food e.g. corned beef and cabbage maybe with a ton or two of potatoes on the side, but they aren't supposed to get drunk. Getting drunk on St. Pat's day is more or less a mockery of the Irish, so get drunk some other day.

Actually, most get drunk. Some go out to start a riot, but thats the exception, and mostly up north. :P

Er.... maybe you should "ascend" back to your Irish anscestry for a second, because I was born here, and have been living here for 26 years now, and I have yet to see the Ireland that you are proclaiming to know so well.

Sure, many people go to mass on Paddys Day morning, but that lasts a whole 40 minutes. So what do you think we do for the rest of the day?????? And it's "bacon and cabbage", not corned beef....

As for me, I spent a good percentage of the day in Aras na nGael, an Irish speaking pub in the middle of the city, getting very merry on many, many pints of Guinness.

Oh I was around, you needn't worry, but I guarantee you that posting would have been at best, a messy experience by the time I got near a computer. By that stage I'd drank about 15 pints of Guinness, had no food, and had asked three random girls out (which they funnily enough refused :) ). So believe me, you were better off :)

ElChevelle 20th March 2006 12:31

Damn, I love the Irish!:D
