Saw a concert on Satellite TV last night with Margo Timmons and Natalie Merchant in a duet covering Patsy Cline's "Walkin' After Midnight" - Awesome!

And speaking of Cowboy Junkies... "Sweet Jane" originally by Lou Reed and Velvet Underground. One of my favorite covers of all times.

I'll have to check that out.

I usually hate the type/style/genre of music that one would pigeonhole Natalie Merchant into. But, there was an occasion where I took a gal to one of the Lilith Fairs (second of the three year run I think), where Natalie Merchant was the second to last performer (last was Sarah McLachlan), and I actually loved the show that Natalie put on. It was quite an amazing night. Got lost in Pittsburgh, and neither of us minded - we ended up filling up the gas tank, and even after we figured out where we were, we still kept driving around and making stops throughout the night. Every time I hear one of the Natalie Merchant songs, I think of that, and that's a good thing.

That show had a damn fine performance of Letters to Cleo (big song at the time was "Here and Now") and Luscious Jackson's "Naked Eye". Sarah McLachlan's show was ok, but Natalie Merchant's performance was just too perfect for me to see anything else as better that night.

It's extreeeeeemely rare for someone like me to give a show like this praise; at the time I was more into Pantara/White Zombie shows, but that night was something unique and unforgettable.

Thanks so much for bringing up Natalie Merchant. I could be robbed of everything I own but still could smile knowing I still have memories of that night.

You know, nothing about this post has anything to do with cover songs. Aww fuck it. I had to share.
