Sort files/songs by BPM

Hi, I hope you can make it possible to sort songs by BPM (beats per minute) this way it will be much easier to play songs after your mood and what you want to listen to.

Like sometimes when I am in party mood i want to hear songs with many BPM's and if I want to relax I can listen to songs with low BPM.

It would be great if it could be an option you could choose in winamp.

Shekar 19th April 2006 01:31

Is this possible at all?

Wildrose-Wally 19th April 2006 06:03

No

How come? You can rip mp3's and tag the BPM on the file and it is possible to read the BPM, some release groups add BPM to their releases.

Do you know any players that have this supported?

Wildrose-Wally 19th April 2006 13:49

No, you can't tag Beats Per Minute, unless you figure out how many BPM's there are in each song and fill it in in the comments field.
Don't confuse it now with the bitrate, ok?

Shekar 20th April 2006 13:22

I'm not confusing it with the bitrate. Look here:

We are aware that tracks 3 and 4 sound like balls, but the
exact same settings were used on the whole vinyl. And the
skips etc are how the vinyl actually sounds, we tried 2
diff needles and cleaned the shit outa it. That's just
the way she is.

The tracks are marked with their BPM and that is not the bitrate.

Wildrose-Wally 20th April 2006 15:27

Those are not exactly the standard mp3 tags, what program did you use to make them?

I didn't make them XXL did, here are the links to the nfo files:

http://nfodb.com/get_120717_A.Tribe....c_top_wav.html

It is not standard, but I have seen many groups start doing it lately, I hope it becomes a standard.

Found this via google, very interesting:
( In search of BPM Detection software)
http://www.mmartins.com/mmartins/bpm...mdetection.asp

I really hope that BPM detection will be implemented in winamp, like maybe an optional function and you could list the tracks after BPM or you could choose to have it shown next to time-length of the tracks.

Shekar 2nd May 2006 23:14

Is it still not possible?

dlichterman 3rd May 2006 06:13

No. Its not a standard tag but just added on to the song title, so there is no way to parse the BPM from the song title. If there was an actuall box for BPM in the ID3 Tag then it would be another story

Shekar 9th May 2006 04:31

If you enter "Winamp AVS editor" (open AVS editor and choose "Dock in AVS Editor)You can choose "Beat detection" under "Settings"

Winamp Avs Editor --> Settings --> Beat Detection

There it's possible to the see the BPM it's shown right under "Advanced Status"

Is it possible to get shown in Winamp Main Window?

JonnyMac 9th May 2006 12:15

No, but there are plug-ins that will calculate and display BPM in their own window…

Shekar 9th May 2006 12:53

One step closer, but the dream is not yet fulfilled, I'm really sorry that it didn't get possible to sort songs by BPM, would be so nice, you could put it after the mood, situation etc.

I'll stick to winamp but I really hope that this will get implemented one day.

Thank you for your attention and your understanding :)

JonnyMac 9th May 2006 13:13

Maybe, just maybe in the near future.

AFAIK (and I could be wrong), BPM is one the new tags in ID3 v2.4. ID3 v2.4 is in the Winamp Wishlist, hopefully full support will be coming to a Winamp near you.

If the BPM tag was added to JTF, your dreams could be answered. However, with BPM being somewhat ambiguous, there would still have to be a way to add the value to the tag. Either at the "encoding end" or at the user end.

That was cheering. Excellent to hear :)

but how can I get it added to the wishlist?

JonnyMac 24th May 2006 00:49

ID3 v2.4 is in the Wishlist.
